KYOPA’s annual state celebration poster for 2024 will be available this week for Kentucky Archaeology Month events! Many thanks to our terrific poster committee this year, which included Darlene Applegate, David Pollack, Gwynn Henderson, Eric Schlarb, Don Miller, Bruce Manzano, and Ed Henry. HMB is so excited to announce our newest hire that we simply couldn’t wait for her to arrive (May can’t get here soon enough)! Whistler Somers will be joining the HMB Louisville office as an Architectural Historian. Whistler is a former Louisville resident (originally from Nashville) who is excited to make her return to Cardinal Country. Whistler is a proud member of the Oneida Nation Native American Tribe and has received degrees from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Virginia. Welcome, Whistler!

HMB continues to grow! Our new Louisville Office (formerly Corn Island Archaeology) is seeking a full time Senior Architectural Historian/Senior Historian for immediate hire. Minimum requirements for consideration include:

• Masters Degree in Architectural History, History, Historic Preservation Planning, or closely related discipline
• Meets Secretary of Interior’s Professional Standards of Architectural History
• Minimum 5 years of working in architectural history
• Thorough understanding of Section 106/110 of the National Historic Preservation Act and its implementing regulations
• Established working relationship with the state Historic Preservation Office/Kentucky Heritage Council
• Thorough knowledge of KHC guidelines for fieldwork and reporting
• Must meet prequalification requirements with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet
• Demonstrated knowledge classifying and recording eastern and midwestern residential, commercial, and public buildings
• Must be able to travel within a half day of Louisville, as needed.
