A cable’s jacket rating should be chosen for the space it travels through, not guessed in the field.
Plenum-rated and riser-rated cables serve different pathways. If cabling will pass through an air-handling plenum, the selection must align with the applicable code requirements and the building’s design. That decision is best made early, in coordination with mechanical and fire-protection plans.
A clear design should identify the cable rating and document the pathway. Where cables cross rated walls or floors, pe*******ons also need appropriate firestopping, planned and installed as part of the complete pathway.
Guessing can mean costly replacement, schedule delays, or compliance problems. Specifying the right cable and route up front helps protect the project budget and keeps infrastructure ready for what’s next.
