Dad, since you left, we created a family business rooted in the values you gave us.

Since you left, we have served more than 5,000 clients.

Since you left, we have distributed thousands of diapers and hundreds of safety items to families who needed them.

Since you left, your commitment to education, family, advocacy, and doing the right thing has continued to guide us.

On October 23—your birthday—we celebrate everything you started and everything your legacy continues to make possible.

October 23 would have been our dad’s birthday.

After he passed suddenly in 2022, we created the Family Empowerment Foundation to continue the work and values that shaped his life—and ours.

He believed deeply in education, family, advocacy, and doing the right thing, even when it was difficult. Today, those values remain at the heart of our work:

💙 Family support through Healthy Start
📣 Advocacy for families, programs, and communities

This annual birthday campaign is our way of honoring his legacy and helping more families receive the education, support, and advocacy they deserve.

What he started continues through us.

Happy One-Year Anniversary to our HIPPY program and the amazing women who brought it to life!

Over the past year, Program Coordinator Tiffany Parrish and Home Visitors Maria Juan and Cinttya Alba have worked alongside families to help parents become their children’s first and most important teachers.

A special thank-you to the Children’s Services Council of Martin County for its partnership and continued support of early learning and literacy for children and families throughout Martin County.

We are incredibly proud of everything our HIPPY team has accomplished and excited for the families they will continue to empower!

This week Capital Area Healthy Start had its annual meeting; Healthy Start home visitation was highlighted through the experience of one of our amazing clients.

She shared that the education she received about childbirth changed her mindset about giving birth and helped her understand what to expect and what she could look forward to.

This is the power of home visitation: building relationships, providing families with trusted information, compassionate support, and greater confidence as they prepare for some of life’s biggest moments.

Babywearing is about so much more than keeping your hands free, it can support connection, confidence, and responsive caregiving.

Here are four benefits you may not know:

1️⃣ With the right carrier and individualized instruction, babywearing can help some caregivers with physical disabilities hold and carry their babies more comfortably.

2️⃣ Research found that increased carrying reduced babies’ crying and fussing by 43% overall at six weeks.

3️⃣ Keeping babies close can support bonding and breastfeeding. When practiced skin-to-skin, close contact may also increase oxytocin and strengthen responsive interactions.

4️⃣ Research suggests that babywearing may strengthen how fathers respond to their babies’ cries and help them become more attuned to their babies’ cues.

Every caregiver and baby is different. Proper positioning, a clear airway, an age-appropriate carrier, and individualized guidance are essential for safe babywearing. All FEP team members are trained to teach babywearing to their clients.
