Here are the companies making headlines in midday trading.

Disney — Shares of the entertainment giant surged more than 9% after its fiscal third quarter report showed strong growth for its streaming services. The company’s revenues came in weaker than expected, but it said its streaming subscriptions reached 100 million and announced it will release the highly anticipated remake of “Mulan” direct to streaming in September.

Novavax — The pharmaceutical stock jumped 14% after the company released information about its Covid-19 vaccine candidate that showed promising results in a phase one trial. JPMorgan upgraded the stock to outperform from neutral after seeing the phase one results.

Square – Shares of Square soared more than 11% after posting better-than-expected quarterly results and strong growth in its consumer payments app. The payments company reported $1.92 billion in net revenue for the second quarter, marking a 64% year-over-year jump. Adjusted earnings per share came in at 18 cents, far better than the estimates of 5 cent loss per Refinitiv.

HSBC on Monday reported a 65% year-over-year plunge in pre-tax profits for the first six months of 2020 as it set aside more funds for potential loan losses that could come as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The bank, Europe’s largest by assets, reported profit before tax of $4.32 billion in the first half of this year — down from $12.41 billion that was reported a year ago and missing the estimated $5.69 billion that HSBC had compiled from analysts.

Wall Street’s attention in after-hours trading Wednesday evening was focused on earnings announcements from several U.S. companies, but especially Microsoft and carmaker Tesla.

Despite better-than-expected figures, software giant Microsoft shares fell as much as 3% in after-hours trading. Though the company’s results were largely positive, Microsoft said its transactional license purchasing continued to slow and that subsidiary LinkedIn was negatively impacted by the weak job market.

Tesla, meanwhile, blew past analyst expectations and posted its fourth consecutive quarter of profit, opening the door for the company’s inclusion in the S&P 500. Excluding one-time charges, Tesla’s second-quarter earnings per share of $2.18 were well above the 3 cents per share expected by analysts polled by Refinitiv.
