Looking for a part-time studio assistant

I've been working on a fascinating painting that is currently in progress. I'll be sharing the before and after photos soon. The painting started completely black, and every detail I uncovered becomes increasingly clearer as I delve deeper into the restoration process.

Early in my education, I wanted to become a medical illustrator when I first started art school. I studied anatomy extensively, along with other sciences relevant to the profession. However, I ultimately decided that being a fine artist was my calling. A client who collects medical antiques and has museum dedicated to these artifacts truly made my year by bringing this artwork in to me.

SCROLL THROUGH TO SEE THE FINISHED PAINTING
This artwork needed a complete overhaul, and it was an absolute pleasure. A previous restoration needed to be removed. There were two holes in the canvas yellowed varnish, and missing and loose plaster ornamentation on the frame. It was two wonderful jobs built into one.

What a wonderful weekend celebrating open studios at Manufacturers Village in East Orange. Over 65 artists and makers are located in three historical buildings. Ashley Ella Studio had a fabulous turnout. I loved engaging with all my visitors about my practice and theirs. Building three has a place in my heart, and I admire everyone's creativity in the entire village.

Ashley Ella Studio Fine Art Restoration proudly announces its relocation to a larger facility at 364 Glenwood Ave. in East Orange, New Jersey to accommodate its expanding operations. Ashley will continue to provide outstanding art restoration services, custom framing, and pick-up and delivery. The new location will accomodate the restoration of larger artworks. The studio is situated in building three of the historical Manufactures Village, formerly known as the Johnson and Johnson building, constructed in 1880.

A returning client brought me a massive 120 x 76-inch painting to restore. It's twice my height! After I clean it, repair the back, and stretch it with aluminum bars, this beauty will be as good as new. The art was originally in their parents' home and adhered to the walls as a mural in the 70s. It will be all set and ready to hang when I deliver it back to stay in the family.

I am restoring this lovely Mattie Dube from 1897 titled Song of the Lake.
This painting will undergo an overhaul. The process includes deep cleaning, varnish removal, repairs to prior restoration, filling, in-painting, flattening, re-varnishing, and relining with linen and wax.
As you can see, the colors are shining underneath the grime.

I love my work, its a joy and privilege.

Life often surprises us in the most unexpected ways. Recently, I was recognized in a book publication for my archival work at the Bound Brook Library. It was an incredible experience meeting the author, Jim Stempel, and providing historical information. Jim, a prolific author, and his wife traveled from Massachusetts to delve into the treasure trove of historical knowledge at the Bound Brook Library. The hidden gem of documents I shared with Jim proved to be crucial in completing a chapter about Bound Brook. Every year, a celebratory reenactment takes place, and I had the privilege of participating and covering the event. It's truly an experience that everyone should partake in.
