Happy New Year!! We've had a lot of overcast days on the weekends (or so it seems!) but this past weekend was bright and sunny! My sister and I spent part of New Years Day on Jekyll Island. Each time I go, I realize that I should take advantage of being so close to the coast and the beautiful island more often. December through the 1st week of January is "holiday island" on Jekyll with lots of lights. The historic district buildings are decorated beautifully. The rest of the decorated areas are anything from the 12 Days of Christmas to GA Bulldogs logos to shrimp in the trees! In January and February, plastic balls are hidden throughout the public areas of the island. If you find one (with a note inside indicating an Island Treasure), you take it to the visitor's center to receive a glass globe, hand made by US artisans.
