I Just Want to Know Why 😂

People sometimes look at my education and ask why I kept going back to school.

The answer is pretty simple:

I love to learn.

I'm the person who notices something repeatedly coming up in cases and immediately starts wondering...

Why does this keep happening? What causes it? Is there research on this?

And suddenly I'm 14 tabs deep reading research papers. 😂

That curiosity took me from Criminal Justice, to paralegal studies, to a master's focused on Forensic Psychology, and eventually into doctoral studies in Traumatology.

And here's the funny part:

This photo is from the only graduation ceremony I've ever attended—high school. That's me with Mama and O'Bachan. 🤍 Jordan was in Mama's womb.

All those degrees and certificates later, apparently I was never particularly interested in walking across the stage.

I wanted the education.

Because knowing what happened has never been enough for me.

I want to know why.

Why people behave the way they do. Why systems work—or don't. Why patterns keep appearing. And how understanding those things can help me do my work better.

I don't think I'll ever stop learning.

Which probably means there's another educational rabbit hole somewhere with my name on it. 😂📚

My career path makes a lot more sense when you stop looking at the job titles. 😂

Since leaving the Army, I've worked in family law, security, complex litigation, Magistrate Court, contract coordination—and entrepreneurship.

On paper, those can look like completely different careers.

But to me, there has always been a common thread:

People. Details. Problems that need solving.

I've helped attorneys prepare cases.
I've helped people navigate court processes.
I've reviewed incredibly sensitive records.
I've managed deadlines, documents and workflows.
I've helped job seekers tell their stories through their résumés.
And I've built systems when the existing system wasn't working.

Every position taught me something different—and not every stop was meant to be permanent.

Some taught me what I was good at.

Some taught me what I absolutely did not want to do forever. 😂

And some eventually helped me realize I could take everything I'd learned and create something of my own.

That's really what McLamb Consulting & Support is.

It isn't based on one job I've had.

It's the result of all of them.

Different titles. Different environments. Different chapters.

Same goal: help people, manage the details, and bring a little order to complicated situations. 💙

August 22 🤍

Some dates never become just another day on the calendar.

Today marks four years since I lost my mama.

There are so many pieces of who I am that were shaped by her—my strength, my determination, the way I care for people, and the part of me that keeps going even when life looks nothing like I expected it to.

Building a business has taught me a lot about myself, but it has also reminded me how much of the people we love continues forward through us.

In the way we work.
In the way we treat people.
In the values we carry.
In the lives we build.

I wish she were here to see all that has changed, all that I’ve created, and all that I’m still becoming.

Four years later, I still carry her with me.

Always. 🤍

Sometimes asking for help really is the smartest business decision. 💼

As a small business owner myself, I understand the temptation to wear every hat.

Administrative work. Marketing. Documents. Scheduling. Finances. Client work. Planning.

You tell yourself, “I can do it myself.”

And maybe you can.

But the better question is: Is doing everything yourself the best use of your time?

In this blog post, I share some thoughts about knowing when it makes sense to bring in experienced support — whether that means getting help with a résumé, administrative work, document preparation, organization, or another task that’s taking your attention away from where you need it most.

I've been on both sides of that equation: the person who needs help and the person providing it.

Leaving the Army in 2019 meant more than changing jobs.

For almost 12 years, the Army gave me structure, a mission, a team—and an identity.

Then suddenly, I was a civilian.

And I had to figure out who Amber was without the uniform.

One of the biggest surprises was how difficult it was to translate my experience into the civilian world.

I had been a Senior Paralegal, an SVP NCO, a leader, trainer and mentor. I had managed complex cases, people, deadlines and high-pressure situations.

But put all of that on a civilian résumé?

Apparently, I needed a translator. 😂

So I learned.

I rewrote. Applied. Networked. Interviewed. Got frustrated. Rewrote again.

More importantly, I learned that starting over doesn't erase everything that came before it.

Eventually, I found my footing in civilian legal work and continued building from there. That journey would take me through law firms, complex litigation, court operations, contract work—and eventually entrepreneurship.

It's also one reason résumé and career support became part of McLamb Consulting & Support.

I've been the person staring at a résumé thinking:

“I KNOW I can do this job. How do I make them see it?”

Sometimes you don't need more experience.

You just need help translating the experience you already have.

The Army shaped who I was.

Civilian life gave me the opportunity to figure out who I wanted to become.

And I'm still becoming. 💙
