BAT MATERNITY SEASON IS OVER — WHICH MEANS BAT EVICTIONS CAN BEGIN!

This is the time of year we’ve been waiting for!

During Bat Maternity Season, bats are protected for a very good reason. Female bats gather in maternity colonies to give birth and raise their pups, and those babies are unable to fly for several weeks. Evicting the adults too early can leave flightless babies trapped inside an attic with no way to survive.

Now that maternity season has ended, we can humanely evict bats from homes without the fear of leaving flightless babies behind.
At Southern Wildlife Management, our goal is simple:

✅ Get the bats OUT
✅ Keep the bats from getting back IN
✅ Do it QUICKLY & HUMANELY
✅ Complete the process without harming the bats

Bats are an important part of our ecosystem, and they deserve to be protected. They just don’t need to be living in your attic!
And speaking of Bat Exclusion… I have to share something that absolutely floored me.

We recently gave a homeowner in Blue Ridge, Georgia an estimate for Bat Exclusion. They told us our estimate was MORE THAN $10,000 LESS than the estimate they received from a national franchise.

TEN. THOUSAND. DOLLARS. LESS. 😳

At first I was shocked. Then, quite frankly, I got angry.

I understand that EVERYTHING is more expensive today. Materials cost more. Insurance costs more. Labor costs more. Running a legitimate, licensed wildlife company costs more.

BUT COME ON!!!!!

There is a difference between charging enough to operate a professional business and handing a homeowner an astronomical estimate because they’re scared, have bats living above their heads, and don’t know what the service should reasonably cost.
We’ve been a local, family-owned North Georgia wildlife company for more than 15 years. We know how to solve bat problems, we know how to properly Bat-Proof a home, and we believe homeowners deserve professional work at a FAIR price.

If you’ve been told you have bats and received an estimate that made your jaw hit the floor, GET ANOTHER ESTIMATE.
Seriously.

A bat problem needs to be handled correctly — but protecting your home should not require taking out a second mortgage.

Copperheads are a perfect example of just how well snakes can disappear into the North Georgia landscape. Their coloring allows them to blend almost perfectly with leaves, pine straw, mulch, rocks, and wooded areas—sometimes making them difficult to spot even when they are right in front of you.

For homeowners dealing with frequent snake activity, it can feel like a never-ending battle. But one of the most important things to understand is this:

Snakes usually aren’t showing up for no reason. They are following food.

One of the biggest attractants we see around North Georgia homes is bird feeders.

Bird seed doesn’t just attract birds. Seed scattered underneath feeders attracts mice, rats, squirrels, chipmunks, and other small animals. Once rodents discover an easy food source, snakes may eventually discover the rodents.

Bird Feeders → Rodents → Snakes

If you are trying to reduce snake activity around your property, removing bird feeders is one of the FIRST changes we recommend.
You can also help by keeping grass and vegetation maintained, cleaning up brush and debris, reducing hiding areas around the home, and addressing rodent activity before it becomes established.

We can never completely eliminate snakes from the North Georgia outdoors—and we shouldn’t expect to. They are part of our ecosystem. But we CAN make your property less attractive to the prey and conditions that continually bring them closer to your home.

Snake prevention often starts long before you ever see the snake.

This Is What We Protect.

Bats are a protected species, but the law should not be the only reason we handle them responsibly.

When a bat colony has flightless babies, that space is functioning as a maternity ward. Evicting the mothers before the pups can fly can leave babies trapped inside, separate families, and create an even larger problem within the structure.

There is a right way and a wrong way to perform Bat Removal. Responsible wildlife control means understanding the bat maternity season, waiting until the young are able to fly, and then completing a professional Bat Exclusion that protects the home without harming the colony.

At Southern Wildlife Management, our decisions are guided by more than regulations. They are guided by experience, humane practices, and respect for the wildlife we are trusted to manage.

While bats are essential contributors to our local ecosystem—specifically for natural insect control—their presence inside a home or commercial building is a serious matter.

𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐎𝐍 (𝐀𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐋 𝟏𝐒𝐓 – 𝐉𝐔𝐋𝐘 𝟑𝟏𝐒𝐓) It is imperative to understand that bats are a protected species. From April 1st through July 31st, we are in the "maternity black-out period." During these months, female bats give birth to pups that are initially unable to fly. Because these flightless babies remain in the roost, standard exclusion work is strictly regulated to prevent the harm of the colony.

𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐒 Before we initiate any exclusion, we perform a detailed inspection to verify the status of the colony. We look for indicators to confirm whether flightless pups are present. If we identify an active maternity colony, we pause exclusion work to ensure no animals are trapped inside or harmed. Our approach is always "wildlife-first"; we prioritize compliance with both state and federal laws to ensure the safety and survival of these protected pollinators.

𝐖𝐇𝐘 𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐒𝐄 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐍 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐃𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐆𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓? We are NWCOA Bat Standards Certified, meaning our methods follow the highest national standards for both bat conservation and professional wildlife handling.

• Thorough Inspection: We identify all entry points and assess the roost's status. We never take shortcuts when it comes to the safety of the colony.

• Humane Exclusion: We use non-lethal, legal methods that allow bats to exit your structure safely once the season permits. We never trap or harm the colony.

• Professional Sealing: We use high-quality, critter-proof materials to seal entry points, ensuring an aesthetic, professional finish.

• Guano Cleanup: We handle the necessary cleanup and sanitization to remove health hazards while protecting the property.

𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔 We stand behind our work. Every bat exclusion service we perform comes with a FREE 10-YEAR WARRANTY, providing you with long-term peace of mind.

If you suspect a colony has taken up residence, please contact us. We will evaluate the situation professionally, ethically, and in full compliance with the law.

HONEYBEE HIVE IN YOUR WALLS? This is NOT a DIY job.

This is what a real honeybee hive inside a structure looks like. Not just bees — but honey, wax comb, brood, and years of buildup hidden behind your walls.

Here’s what most homeowners don’t realize:

In Georgia, it is ILLEGAL to remove a honeybee hive from a structure without proper licensing. Anyone performing hive removals inside homes must be a Certified Honeybee Control & Removal Operator and hold a pest control company license.
This isn’t just paperwork — it ensures:

✔ Proper live removal (not extermination)
✔ Safe handling of bees, honey, and comb
✔ Full clean-out of wax, brood, and debris (critical to prevent re-infestation)
✔ Correct sealing of entry points so bees don’t come right back

We donate healthy hives to local beekeepers, allowing them to properly care for and help the colony thrive during transition.

Here’s the mistake we see all the time: Someone removes “the bees”… but leaves behind the hive. That leads to:

✖ Rotting honey inside walls
✖ Ants, roaches, and secondary infestations
✖ Melted honey leaking through ceilings
✖ Bees coming right back next season

Proper honeybee removal = FULL CUT-OUT + CLEAN-OUT + EXCLUSION

At Southern Wildlife Management, we handle:
• Structural hive removals
• Live bee relocation and beekeeper transfer
• Full comb & honey removal
• Repair-ready cleanouts
• Entry point sealing

If you’re seeing bee activity going in and out of siding, soffits, or walls — don’t wait. The longer they stay, the bigger (and more expensive) it gets.
