ARMOR THOUGHTS . . .

“How you see them is how you’ll treat them.”

That simple truth holds power. I’ve seen it play out countless times.

I worked with executives who only saw employees as workers—nothing more, nothing less. And sure enough, that’s exactly how they treated them.

I remember debating with a colleague about providing decent meals for employees working long, hot days—even on their off days. His attitude was nonchalant. I asked myself: If this were his family member out there, giving up their time and energy, would a cheap meal still feel acceptable?

Another time, I counseled an employee overwhelmed by bitterness toward her husband. She told me she just wanted him to shut up. I asked her to close her eyes and imagine something: What if he had a terrible accident, and the doctor told you his voicebox was crushed and his voice was gone forever? When she opened her eyes, she saw him differently.

That’s the power of perspective.

Some of the best leadership principles come from scripture. The Bible teaches us to love our neighbor and treat them with dignity. When leaders embrace this, they unlock loyalty, trust, and commitment that employees give back tenfold.

I know this because I’ve built it. Sometimes people need to see what you have underneath the armor you wear.

What’s inside you will ALWAYS shape what’s outside of you.

In other words, what flows from your inner self directly impacts your environment. The critical question is: What are you projecting?

— Is it PEACE?
— Is it CONFRONTATIONAL?

Let your inner transformation drive your outer success.

I remember moving from New York to Pennsylvania as a sophomore in high school and trying out for the football team. I started as the 6th string running back on varsity at my new school.

But here’s what lived inside me:

— I was the best running back.
— I would not back down.
— I would humbly demonstrate my skill.
— I would dominate.

Midway through my sophomore year, I was promoted to rotating into the starting lineup and earned a varsity letter. What was inside me manifested outwardly, directly impacted my environment, and produced the results I sought.

Take time to examine what’s inside you—because it will inevitably shape your environment.
