I'm very excited and humbled to announce that I had one of my colored pencil drawings juried into the Colored Pencil Society's 2018 International Exhibition and win one of only 14 awards! The annual CPSA convention was held at the Hyatt in Chicago where it will hang in a local gallery until September. Here are details on the drawings I entered and time-lapse videos of the drawings as I did them:

Here is a speed video of an abstract colored pencil drawing I just completed for the 2018 Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) International Contest. This is the second Cruciform Abstract I've done with 100% Colored Pencils on Uart 800 Sanded Paper. The first won 3d place in the 2017 Uart Paper Company annual colored pencil contest and Honorable Mention in the Johns Creek Art Center Spring Colors exhibit. They are fun to do! This three minute speed video represents about 6 hours of drawing time done an hour or so at a time after a large cup of coffee!

This 100% Colored Pencil Cruciform Abstract is was a way for me to experiment with all my colored pencils and how they react on Uart 800 Sanded Paper. I used...

Here's a photo restoration I completed some time ago for my friend Russell's wife Celine. I just realized I hadn't published the YouTube video of it on my Facebook site. https://youtu.be/071BM7l1jlQ

A previous version had audio problems which have been fixed. It provides a pretty detailed explanation of Photoshop's tools to restore a severely damaged photo.

(Audio Fixed on This Version!) This is a photo restoration I did for a long time friend of mine done in Adobe Photoshop CC 2017. The original was a badly dam...

I did this pencil drawing for my son-in-law Justin of his grandfather who was awarded the Silver Star for bravery in 1944. He gave the original drawing to his dad and prints for his brothers and relatives. After I did the drawing and the video I found the Battle Hymn of the Republic by the U.S Army Band as the music bed, and also the text of the Silver Star award he was given by the President of the United States for bravery which is scrolled at the end. I couldn't stop the tears every time I played it while editing.

This time-lapse video is a capture of a pencil drawing I did for my son-in-law Justin Wyatt as a tribute to a true American hero - his Grandfather, Thurman W...

Hi folks. It's been awhile since I posted anything here so I thought I'd update you on a couple of my latest projects. Every year the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA.org) has an international contest called ExploreThis! and the deadline for next years entries is today. I entered last year and was juried in (http://cpsa.org/explorethis-13exhibition - My entry is the bearded banjo player!) It is quite an honor to be juried in because there are entries from all over the world and only 61 were accepted! So I've been working on a fun piece based on a photo I took last year when Carol and I took our anniversary trip to North Georgia. There is a really nice Antique store (Rustic Rooster) in Dahlonega and I used it as a backdrop for a take-off on 2 Corinthians 5:17 - "Therefore, if any man is in Christ he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold all things have become new!" It's my life verse and quite frankly, my life story! So I kinda took some liberties, added a few signs, sayings, posters and even a cameo of a really good buddy (you have to look hard). Several of these decorations are from Carol and my favorite restaurants...Midway Meal House in Cu***ng and Rexall Grill in Duluth. I just entered the store as well as a drawing I did of the conductor at the Duluth Railroad Museum we met when we took the Wyatt grandkids a couple years ago for a fun afternoon. Enjoy!

I met a really sweet lady while walking Minnie the other day in the Chinese Christian Church parking lot near our house. She spoke broken English and was walking her dog. I asked if I could take a picture of her dog so I could do a drawing of it. I'm not sure she understood what I was saying but we communicated as dog walkers seem to do...by letting the pups cautiously get to know each other. Her dog basically sat down like a fireplug while Minnie scampered nervously around him trying to elicit some kind of acknowledgement. As I was leaving, her sweet dog tried to jump in my car with Minnie and I!!!

I was fascinated by the amazing features God designed into her dog and enjoyed doing this drawing. For a while my drawing looked like an alien from Ork! But it finally came together and his personality and beauty shone through.

I hope I can run into her again and give her the drawing! BTW, does anyone know what breed it is? I have a time-lapse video of my drawing process on this that I will be editing together and posting. I may add a bit of color with Prismacolor Verithin pencils.

Details:
Size: 9"x12"
Surface: Strathmore 300 Bristol Vellum paper
Pencils: Caran d'Ache Grafwood graphite pencils - 4H, 2H, B, HB, 2B and 4B
Photo reference: My own photo on iPhone 6+

Also, if you live near me and know the lady please message me so I can give this to her.
