Copperheads are a perfect example of just how well snakes can disappear into the North Georgia landscape. Their coloring allows them to blend almost perfectly with leaves, pine straw, mulch, rocks, and wooded areas—sometimes making them difficult to spot even when they are right in front of you.

For homeowners dealing with frequent snake activity, it can feel like a never-ending battle. But one of the most important things to understand is this:

Snakes usually aren’t showing up for no reason. They are following food.

One of the biggest attractants we see around North Georgia homes is bird feeders.

Bird seed doesn’t just attract birds. Seed scattered underneath feeders attracts mice, rats, squirrels, chipmunks, and other small animals. Once rodents discover an easy food source, snakes may eventually discover the rodents.

Bird Feeders → Rodents → Snakes

If you are trying to reduce snake activity around your property, removing bird feeders is one of the FIRST changes we recommend.
You can also help by keeping grass and vegetation maintained, cleaning up brush and debris, reducing hiding areas around the home, and addressing rodent activity before it becomes established.

We can never completely eliminate snakes from the North Georgia outdoors—and we shouldn’t expect to. They are part of our ecosystem. But we CAN make your property less attractive to the prey and conditions that continually bring them closer to your home.

Snake prevention often starts long before you ever see the snake.

This Is What We Protect.

Bats are a protected species, but the law should not be the only reason we handle them responsibly.

When a bat colony has flightless babies, that space is functioning as a maternity ward. Evicting the mothers before the pups can fly can leave babies trapped inside, separate families, and create an even larger problem within the structure.

There is a right way and a wrong way to perform Bat Removal. Responsible wildlife control means understanding the bat maternity season, waiting until the young are able to fly, and then completing a professional Bat Exclusion that protects the home without harming the colony.

At Southern Wildlife Management, our decisions are guided by more than regulations. They are guided by experience, humane practices, and respect for the wildlife we are trusted to manage.

"WHEN HAND REMOVAL IS THE RIGHT CALL!"

Not every wildlife situation needs traps. When an animal is confined in a small, enclosed space, we can often safely remove it by hand and resolve the problem immediately.

Examples where hand removal works:
☑️ Stuck in a garbage dumpster
☑️ Closed up inside a shed or garage
☑️ Trapped in a laundry room or living space
☑️ Inside a vehicle

In these situations, the animal has nowhere to go, which allows for a controlled, safe removal without setting traps.
Where hand removal is NOT the right approach:

❌ Attics
❌ Yards
❌ Crawlspaces or wide-open areas

If the animal can move freely, it becomes a trapping job with proper setup and daily trap checks to ensure safe and effective removal.

The key is choosing the right method for the situation—quick hand removal when possible, and structured trapping when necessary.

PROFESSIONAL MOLE CONTROL SERVICES IN NORTH GEORGIA

Raised ridges across your lawn? Soft, spongy soil underfoot? Those are signs of active mole tunneling. Moles travel just beneath the surface while feeding on earthworms and grubs, creating visible turf damage that can spread quickly if left untreated.

At Southern Wildlife Management, our mole control service is all-inclusive and professionally managed based on the active conditions at your property. We service from Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Cummming all the way up to Dawsonville. The Mole in the picture just was pulled out of a lawn in Alpharetta today.

Why Mole Damage Expands Quickly>

Moles do not eat grass, but their tunneling:
• Separates turf roots from soil
• Creates unstable walking surfaces
• Damages ornamental beds
• Expands daily as new tunnels are formed

DIY repellents and sonic devices rarely stop established tunnel systems. Once activity is visible, professional control is typically required.

Our mole control service may include:
• Mole Trapping – Strategic placement in active primary tunnels
• Mole Baiting – Used when soil conditions and activity patterns make it appropriate
• Tunnel Gassing – Using carbon monoxide delivered through specialized mole burrow equipment

Our tunnel gassing system uses carbon monoxide generated from controlled exhaust equipment designed specifically for underground burrows. This is not gasoline, and no liquid fuel is poured into the ground. The gas is injected directly into active tunnels, where it displaces oxygen and acts quickly within the confined underground system. When applied properly, it does not harm grass or root systems because it remains within the tunnel airspace and dissipates once exposed to open air.
That said, tunnel gassing is the method we use the least. Unlike trapping, which provides physical confirmation of success, gassing does not provide visible feedback or confirmation of mortality. For that reason, trapping is often preferred when conditions allow. The technician evaluates active runs, soil conditions, and tunnel patterns, then discusses the most appropriate method—or combination of methods—with the homeowner.

Correct identification of primary tunnels is critical. Random placement or guessing typically leads to poor results.

When to Schedule Mole Service >

If fresh ridges appear daily or tunneling continues to spread across your yard, professional intervention is recommended. Mole activity in North Georgia lawns can escalate quickly, especially in irrigated or well-maintained turf.
