One of the most common questions families ask is: “Does Medicare pay for assisted living?”

In most cases, the answer is no.

Assisted living is considered a living community, not a medical facility. While residents may receive help with things like dressing, showering, meals, medication reminders, and daily routines, that support is not typically treated as medical care covered by Medicare or health insurance.

Some families may have long-term care insurance, but assisted living is often private pay.

August is National Wellness Month, and mobility is a major part of senior wellness.

Staying active does not have to mean a big exercise routine. Walking, chair exercises, stretching, and simple daily movement can all help preserve strength, function, and independence.

But if mobility is becoming a concern, do not ignore it. Talk with your doctor and ask whether physical therapy or occupational therapy may help.

Keep moving to keep living well.

August is National Wellness Month, and medication safety is an important part of staying well.

For many seniors, managing multiple medications can get confusing. Pills can look similar, doses can be missed, or someone may forget they already took a medication and accidentally take it twice.

Bubble packs can be a helpful solution. They organize medications by day and time, making it easier to see what has been taken and what still needs to be taken.

The Kingsport Senior Center is an important local resource for older adults, offering programs, activities, wellness opportunities, and plenty of ways to stay active and connected in the community.

Donna and Neal from Oasis Senior Advisors East Tennessee will be there along with other local vendors, sharing information and resources for seniors and their families. There will also be light refreshments and Table BINGO for a chance to win a prize.
