Mess to Magic. Chaos to Castle. ✨ Something is coming, and it's been a long time in the making. Last week brought closure on things that have been heavy for a while: storm damage from the tornadoes finally getting wrapped up and the last of the Georgia chapters closing out. Then came a weekend of chickens climbing all over me, puppies chewing frozen carrots at my feet, and a kitchen full of sourdough experiments. Somewhere in all that mess, the magic started showing up again. I'm ready to share the whole story, the chaos and the castle, and I have a feeling some of you need to hear it too. Stay close. The best is yet to come. 🏰

Confession: I'm an odd bird. 🐓 When I don't have clarity on my direction, my vision, and my end goal, I don't rush. I sit still until I do. Last week was pivotal on so many fronts. We finished up more of the storm damage from the tornadoes, closed out a handful of the remaining Georgia loose ends, and then spent a beautiful weekend healing. Chickens, garden, and sourdough therapy, with the pups at my side every single moment. And today, in a small way, I felt like myself for the first time in a long time. For every minute of my 44 years, that's something I would have kept completely to myself. But there's something healing about saying it out loud. So here it is. Let's talk about it, and let's heal together. Here we go. 💛

51 eggs. 🥚 All weekend I'd been going out to collect early, and every time a few nesting boxes still had girls sitting on them. So today I waited, collected late, and ended up with 51 eggs from the main coop alone. That doesn't count the duck eggs, the guinea eggs, or Blueberry and Begonia's eggs! Good things really do come to those who wait. Monday at Farmcastle. 💛

Chickens on my head. Chickens on my arms, my hands, my back, and my knees every time I squatted down. 🐣 I've been a little short on baby-chick time the last few days, and tonight they made sure I knew they'd missed me. The usual suspects were everywhere: Bestie, Roo, Toby, Snow White, and Braverton. Dolly is so big now and gave the camera one very solid look. But the best part? A couple of babies who have never been social, never jumped up on me, and don't even have names yet decided tonight was the night. They found their confidence and came to me all on their own. That means one thing: it's time for a naming party! 🎉 Keep an eye out over the next couple of days, because these brave new babies are going to need your help. Sometimes the shy ones just need a little time to find their people. 💛

Today's teething lesson from two Great Pyrenees puppies: sharing feels better than fighting. 🥕 Della Ruby and Hero each got their very own giant frozen carrot today, which should have been the end of the story. It was not. Every single carrot Hero had, Della Ruby wanted. So they traded. And traded. And traded again. Until finally they figured out what the rest of us sometimes take a little longer to learn, and they just shared one. By the end of the evening they were each happily working on their own again, and you could see how good that cold felt on those sore little gums. They were so much better about chewing on the right things today. Sometimes the fix is simple. A frozen carrot and a friend. 🐾

Sunday is for the things you want to do, not the things you have to do. 🍂
Not the to-do list. Not the inbox. Not the "should." Just the slow coffee, the porch swing, the long walk, the book you keep meaning to finish, the people and the pups who make your heart feel full.
Rest isn't something you earn after you've done enough. It's what refills the well so you can pour into everything else. Peace isn't found at the end of the checklist. It's found when you give yourself permission to set the checklist down.
So today, let it be enough to simply be. Breathe in that crisp fall air. Look out at something beautiful. Do the thing that makes your soul exhale.
That's the real rejuvenation. That's Sunday perfection. ✨

Growing so fast, teething like crazy, and still using SO much self-control not to chew on everything in sight. 🐾

After a lot of research, Hero and Della Ruby got frozen washcloths tonight to soothe those sore little gums. Happy, amazing, perfect pups.

Sunday is our favorite day of the week because we get to spend most of it back there with them, training and watching the incredible work they're already doing as livestock guardian dogs. They're way ahead of where we planned, thanks to the incredible roots they come from and all the exposure to birds, livestock, and farm life they had in their first 12 and a half weeks before they came home to Farmcastle.

I've never had a Great Pyrenees. Honestly, I've never really had a big dog. My grandparents always did on their farm, Mastiffs and Boxers, and James grew up with lots of big dogs. His favorite dog of his whole life was a Labrador also named Della. So he's thrilled with all of it.

But I'm truly shocked and amazed every day by their gentleness, their kindness, and how in tune they are with everything around them. The smells, the birds, the flock. They stepped right up and fit right in.

Great Pyrenees aren't like most dogs. They don't exist to please people or follow our rules. They exist to take on their own independent roles: owning and protecting their flock, their farm, and their family. And they're already doing it. Della has her parts, Hero has his, and they complement each other and trade off through the day and night like they were born knowing how.

One of the coolest things I've ever gotten to watch and be part of. So grateful. 🤍
