Dogs were a familiar sight around coal camps and mining communities. Dogs had different jobs in the mines, some caught disease carrying mice and rats to keep our miners safe, others could pull coal carts, while some served as a warning system to alert miners of unstable structures or dangerous gas pockets.

Happy to all the faithful companions out there. Whether they're chasing bad guys, chasing tennis balls, or simply stealing your spot on the couch, life just wouldn't be the same without them.
