Last weekend, the 232 CSSB from the Illinois Army National Guard received doctrinal academic classes and systems training on their Mission Command Systems. After some initial instruction and practical exercises on the Joint Battle Command - Platform (JBC-P), the staff conducted Command Post (CP) battle drills and rehearsals in their AirBeam Tactical Operations Center (TOC) system. These drills and rehearsals increased their effectiveness and proficiencies in CP establishment and conducting operations. Concurrently, the battalion staff worked the Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) for future long-range planning events.

This week we said farewell to some amazing members of our team as they progress in their careers outside of the organization. SGT Chavarria came to us in March this year to serve as our Supply NCO during a busy time of year and managed all inventories, facilities, and property book items for training. She has been hired on at Sustainment Training Center (STC) as their new Supply Sergeant. CW3 Johnson joined the MTC Team in March of 2022 as the Future Operations (FUOPS) Officer and has done a spectacular job with his automation expertise, organization, and planning skills to ensure Rotational Training Units (RTUs) receive the best customer service prior to their training. Chief Johnson has accepted a new job in the civilian workforce that will provide him and his family tremendous growth potential. MAJ Strohmaier has been with MTC-Dodge since March of 2021 and has served as the team's Communications Officer (S6) and worked tirelessly with our Network Support Team (NST) ensuring all RTUs and Doctrinal Training Teams (DTTs) have the proper network/communications equipment and capabilities to conduct training. MAJ Strohmaier is following his passion into the cyber field with the Iowa Air National Guard.

Our success here at MTC-Dodge is solely due to the hardworking men and women of our team. Without them, we couldn't be as effective as we are providing training and guidance to units across the country. Thank you for your dedication and we wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors.

It is a frequent occurrence that staff do not present timely and relevant information to their commander to enable decision-making.

By providing accurate, relevant, and timely running estimates which will drive decisions, staff can assist their commander in identifying opportunities for exploitation which will be crucial to success in large-scale combat operations.

New doctrine alert! One of the greatest tools in a Staff Officer's arsenal is doctrine. FM 4-0 Sustainment Operations was released on 14AUG2024. Logistics Officers at all echelons should update their toolkit with this updated Field Manual.

From MG Michelle K. Donahue, CASCOM/SCoE CG: “Great News! I have attached a copy (attached below) of the newly published FM 4-0, Sustainment Operations dated 14 August 2024. As you know, FM 4-0 was developed in collaboration with subject matter experts across the Army and the Sustainment enterprise. This manual is nested with FM 3-0, Operations, and captures the essence of what the sustainment warfighting function must do to enable freedom of action, extend operational reach, and prolong endurance in multidomain operations in a contested environment. FM 4-0 provides doctrine that addresses how the elements of the sustainment warfighting function conduct sustainment operations throughout the Army Strategic Contexts of competition, crisis, and armed conflict with specific emphasis on large-scale combat and the Army's operational concept of multidomain operations. FM 4-0 places emphasis on contested logistics and efficiencies (decision dominance, autonomous distribution, demand reduction, advanced power, maritime operations) and adds predictive logistics as a means to precision sustainment. Finally, FM 4-0 discusses sustainment tasks, integration, and synchronization at the national strategic, theater strategic, operational, and tactical levels of warfare.”

This publication shares solid observations from the field, along with doctrinal principles to provide helpful tools and techniques to increase command post (CP) survivability. Explore the options available to CP personnel, networks, and the physical CPs which mitigate the risk to adversarial sensing and attack.

This handbook also touches on the future of operational environments where we may see command post constellations (CPCs) more widely dispersed with redundant capabilities that will lessen the effects of an effective strike.

MTC Dodge supported the 732 Combat Sustainment Support Battalion (WIARNG) at Camp Dodge Joint Maneuver Training Center for their Staff Exercise (STAFFEX) last week. The purpose of this training was to build a strong, cohesive Staff to support their down trace units to sustain the fight. With help from our experienced Doctrinal Training Team (DTT), this battalion staff has gained a tremendous amount of knowledge to make them successful in their future operations. Additionally, the Deputy Adjutant General (DAG) Brigadier General Strub and Command Chief Warrant Officer 5 Mattison from Wisconsin Army National Guard visited the 732nd CSSB during their final days with us to recognize superior leadership and dedication to their organization.
