‘And we will always remember her as, our protector, our hero, our best friend, but most of all, our mum.’

This poem was written by Fleur Hallworth for her mum, who is living with dementia.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

The poem reads:

Alzheimer's I hate you, look what have you done.
You've broken all our hearts and you've broken our mum.
You took a piece away from her, every single day.
It's like you want to kill her, in the most horrid way.
Alzheimer's I hate you, I wish you'd go away.
Leave our mum alone, so at home we can have her stay.
You took away her humour, her dignity, her pride.
Our tears must fill an ocean, the amount that we have cried.
Alzheimer's I hate you, I hope that one day they find.
A cure for you, so that you can't take, anyone else's mind.
Our poor mum looks and smiles, but she doesn't know it's us.
It's so cruel what this disease takes from the person and then, what it does.
Alzheimer's I hate you, but you cannot have our memories, of what our mum has done.
And we will always remember her as our protector, our hero, our best friend, but most of all, our mum.
