I believe in the power of psychological safety, feeling confident to express myself, share ideas, passions, and solutions without fear of retaliation or judgment. To foster an environment where people can freely express themselves, they must feel safe in their workplace, trust the people they interact with, and have confidence in their leaders.

Research shows that psychological safety plays an important role in driving innovation, particularly for marginalized groups, allowing them to embrace their true identities and contribute to better work outcomes. By nurturing psychological safety, we not only encourage innovative thinking and risk-taking, but we also create an inclusive environment where people feel a sense of belonging.

Psychological safety goes far beyond the workplace. As I continue my studies on psychological safety, I’d love to hear from you: How do you encourage psychological safety within your teams, peers, communities, and even with family and friends?

I attended the Talent Management Executive Consortium (TMEC) Summer Social yesterday and had the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and meet many other incredible people. During several conversations at the event, I was reminded of the vital role of inclusivity in leadership, as it fosters a diverse and compassionate space both in and out of the professional setting. Inclusivity is not just a moral imperative but a necessity. While chatting with many leaders, I saw the transformative impact of empathy, trust, and inclusivity on leadership practices.

In today’s globalized and multigenerational workplace, leadership is not just about pursuing business objectives—it’s about cultivating an environment where every individual feels valued, understood, and respected. I felt this strongly at the Summer Social. Connecting with these leaders re-emphasized my commitment to influencing meaningful change and fostering inclusivity through authentic leadership!

I am learning to embrace stillness and idle time. It’s a work in progress. This past year has taught me to slow down a bit more and enjoy the stillness. I’ve learned to slow down before speeding up again. Life is all about a good balance. I can’t continue to love and invest in my loved ones or lead others if I don’t love myself first.

Today, I enjoyed a peaceful 4.5-mile walk to Starbucks. It was a wonderful opportunity for relaxation and reflection. Every moment of silence and serenity offers a chance for self-reflection.

Self-reflection is one of the most powerful exercises for personal evolution and serving others. Whether you lead a team, nurture a family, or seek to influence your community, the essence of your impact lies in focusing on yourself first and embracing your authenticity, thereby positively impacting those interactions.

Even in the thick of the fog, we are able to see the beauty of nature and all that is around us. She does not hide her authentic beauty, even in the elements that may at times make some of us uneasy. As I reflect on my walk, surrounded by the fog, nature, mist, and even the webs that interconnect, I am reminded that even in our times of fog, chaos, and uncertainty, we can prevail as long as we stay true to our authenticity. The webs remind me that we are all interconnected in one way or another. When we model our authentic beauty, even the rough parts, we ignite inspiration in others and become a beacon of light that pokes through their fog, reminding them not to give up.

In the multi-layered world of leadership, confidence and humility are two sides of the same coin, each essential yet potentially risky in excess. Confidence, when rooted in genuine self-assurance and awareness, encourages leaders to make decisive choices, inspire their teams, and drive vision into reality. However, if not balanced with humility, confidence can quickly transform into arrogance, distancing colleagues and hindering personal and organizational growth.

Humility in leadership does not imply timidity or a lack of self-esteem but rather a grounded awareness of one's limitations and an openness to learning. By acknowledging their imperfections, leaders invite feedback and embrace the possibility of growth, fostering an environment where transparency and trust flourish.
