Over the last few weeks our Monday nights have consisted of hosting an 8 hour Basic Extrication Class through Alabama Fire College. Our volunteers spent time in the classroom and also time with hands on training learning the basics of popping doors, cutting roofs, and stabilizing vehicles with struts and cribbing. We’ve been blessed with several new members who haven’t had this training before and it was also a great refresher for those who have had it before. A big thanks to Austin at KH Recycling and Auto Salvage for brining us some vehicles!

This week we hosted Apparatus Operator: Mobile Water Supply. We had students from three counties and multiple departments from inside Cullman County in attendance. A huge thanks to the two instructors, Crane Hill Communities Fire and EMS Chief Brandon Williams and our own Assistant Chief Brad Atkins, Alabama Fire College Regional Coordinator Mike Hill for setting everything up and proctoring the testing and also a thank you to West Point Fire Chief Tim Martin for coming out and helping with skills verifications this morning.

Please pray for the safety of all the team members from Alabama traveling to Texas as part of the Alabama Mutual Aid Task Force! These guys and gals are part of fire departments and EMA’s all over the state who stand ready to deploy with little notice to serve all over the United States during natural disasters.

This week we received notification of award for a hydration grant we applied for through the National Volunteer Fire Council. This year we did not apply for the pallet of canned drinking water, we applied for a grant to receive “Drip Drop” packets which contain nutrients and electrolytes. We want to thanks National Volunteer Fire Council and Drip Drop for choosing us as one of the 1,000 recipients in the nation!
