We are excited to officially introduce one of the newest members of The ROCC team! She will be serving as a Certified Peer Support (CPS), Group Facilitator, and Treatment Court Liaison.

Please help us give a warm welcome to Krystle Maestas! We are so happy to have her joining our team and bringing her passion, personality, and heart for helping others into our community.

We asked her a few questions so everyone can get to know her a little better.

- 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮? "I still prefer to eat on divider plates due to fact that I do not like my food touching. My mom thought I'd grow out of it ... but NO LUCK!"

- 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐎𝐂𝐂? "I hope they feel safe, seen, and last but not least I hope they feel at home in a non-judgement zone."

- 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐛𝐞? "That it is simply a matter of willpower. When actually prolonged substance use alters the way, the brain works. These brain changes make it extremely difficult to stay quit."

- 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐎𝐂𝐂? "Treatment Court! In 2019, I was given the opportunity to participate in treatment court, and I declined and chose incarceration, because I know I needed more Seeing the way treatment court is ran I wish I would have given it a chance."

- 𝐀𝐧𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐎𝐂𝐂? "Recovery gave me more than sobriety ever could. It opened my eyes in order to get my true self back and helped me remove the mask I wore to hide from the world and myself. Joplin gave me a community of like-minded people that welcomed me with open arms. This community helped me find my purpose in life which is to make a difference in the world I live in by sharing my experience, strength, truth and hope."

Have you heard about ROCC The Journey 5K? If not, check out our official race page ROCC The Journey 5K

Last year was our inaugural race, and it meant so much to see our community come together. This year, we’re working to make it even bigger and more meaningful as we head into Year 2.

Summer is just getting started, but we’re already looking ahead to September for Recovery Month. Because this race isn’t just about miles or finish lines, it’s about awareness, connection, and recovery in real life!

We’re working on a “This Is What Recovery Looks Like” initiative and collecting photos that represent people’s journeys. Every story shared helps show the many different faces of recovery in our community.

There are lots of ways to get involved this year- run, walk, support, or simply share your story. We’d truly love to have you be part of it!

"This is What Recovery Looks Like" has quickly become one of the most meaningful parts of the ROCC The Journey 5K.

Every photo submitted tells a story of strength, growth, resilience, and hope. Some moments are huge milestones. Others are quiet victories that nobody else saw.

We want to share these stories on race day and throughout the month of September (Recovery month). Thank you to everyone who has already submitted photos and pieces of their journey with us.

There is still time to be a part of it! Send us a photo that represents what recovery looks like to YOU!
