Happy feast day of St. Roch!

Patron Saint of dogs and dog-lovers, his feast day is August 16th. St Roch (pronounced like “rock”) was a Frenchman born in 1295. While helping people around Rome who were infected by the plague, he caught it himself. The story goes that he went to the woods to die, but a stray dog brought him bread and licked his wounds until he healed fully. He returned to France WITH the dog, was imprisoned and died there. St. Roch is also the patron of bachelors and invalids.
