Crunchy garlic scape pickles are SO EASY TO MAKE! Fermented and fridge stable so you can enjoy all year long. High brine of 2 1/4 teaspoons salt per cup of unchlorinated water. Add dill, peppers, or no extras at all. P.S. it’ll be time to plant next year’s garlic in just a few weeks! (Mid October)

Juneau doesn’t grow tomatoes well, BUT IT IS BERRY COUNTRY! For several years I’ve eaten nothing but HOMEGROWN, homemade berry ketchup on my burgers and ‘taters. It’s a great way to eat local (and opt out of some corporate yuck). 📖Recipe from the classic Cooking Alaskan recipe book, except I use red and white currents instead of high bush cranberries.
