I first started dabbling in the yacht business in 1992—buying, fixing, and reselling a few boats while learning everything I could about the industry.

A trip to Palm Beach in 1994 changed everything. A guy I met there—who remains a close friend today—asked me why I was risking my own money buying boats instead of becoming a yacht broker.

My response was simple:

“What the hell is a yacht broker?”

Once I figured that out, I was hooked. There was no other path in life for me.

On August 17, 1996, with very little money but enough determination to make up for it, I moved to Palm Beach to pursue yacht brokerage full-time.

That was exactly 30 years ago today.

And I can’t think of a more fitting way to mark the occasion than heading offshore from Fort Lauderdale aboard a 100’ Horizon to complete a closing for a client I’ve represented for the past 15 years.

Thirty years later, I’m still doing exactly what I came to Florida to do.

Here’s a little look at a day in the life of a yacht broker—and a pretty special way to celebrate 30 years.
