When I can't adjust a colored preset to my liking... I make it black and white! This image was tricky to adjust in color because of the hazy backlighting, and when you're editing a cell phone image... There is only so much you can do! Right? But I love the black and white because of the attention to the shadows and highlights. I even love the kid in the photo picking his nose! 🤣 That's my boy! Lol

More preset fun! Do you love before and afters? So do I!!! Esp when it comes to photo editing! I use VSCO presets on my cell phone images. I love the vintage/filmy kinda vibe it gives. What are your favorite preset packs for editing your cell phone images? This one is A7 from the VSCO mobile app. I adjusted exposure up just a bit to make it brighter, and added a touch of warmth in the temperature panel, then decreased the contrast just a bit.

How many of Y'all use presets on your photos? I use them on all of my pro photos and most of my cell photos. If you use them, which are your favorites? I adore VSCO https://vsco.co presets on my cell images and have used them for years. I recently purchased the paid subscription. It's $20/ year, and you get a TON of presets with the pack. There is a free version as well. Presets are filters that you can apply to your photos to add a little pop of color, contrast, etc. I personally think they add depth and interest to a photo. Sometimes images straight from your phone, or straight outta camera can look a lil bland. Presets have a way of 'bedazzling' and making them pretty and a bit more professional looking. Not only that, but you can also 'tweak' presets. So say the image is still to dark after you apply the preset... Well you can bump up the exposure to make it brighter. Or say, for example, the image has a blue tint, you can adjust the white balance and make it warmer. So many fun fun things you can do with your images. And have Y'all seen 123 Presets https://123presets.store all over SM lately? Those look pretty awesome too. I might purchase those next. I'll let ya know how they turn out! So follow along on my IG account (and here) to see some awesome before and afters and what presets + tweaks I made to the image. These area all cell images btw that I'll be posting.

Unposed Week:
The photos in this block were all taken within a few minutes of each other. I love the variety you can get when you have your camera ready, and keep your eyes open for those little details. My fave is of Brooke holding Cole's foot while he colored :) She had crawled under the table and was just chillin. I love this little memory, dirty finger nails from playing outside just a few minutes before. When I saw her fingers on the glass with the rim light on them, I took a quick snap before she moved them. Taking photos like this only takes a few minutes. And these are the photos I will cherish.

I don't know about you, but I absolutely LOVE capturing my kids in the moment havin fun, cuddling, or yes, even doing schoolwork at the kitchen table (that part is not fun :) Yesterday I snapped a few unposed shots as we went throughout our day. These are all on my iPhone edited with VSCO mobile presets. And can I tell you, I don't need my big DSLR to appreciate these images, because I love these just as much, and they are just as special! Some of them are a bit out of focus, but that's OK!! I will still print them, because I love how they make me FEEL. The one of Brooke jumping on the sofa, just being her wild little self, it's just SO her, and it's out of focus, but I still think it's prefect because it captures my little darling how I'll always remember her. I especially love the one of our hands together on my lap. We were watching a movie, and the sun was coming in creating dramatic lighting. We were just sitting there cuddling when I looked down and realized what a sweet moment we were in. I grabbed my phone next to me and took a quick snap, then set it back down. I LOVE this photo! I'd encourage you to take your phone out today, and simply capture some meaningful unposed moments of your kids. It doesn't have to be a ton. Just a few that your heart will cherish forever. How many of you moms are documenting your quarantine days? I'm about to start a scrapbook once my prints are in and I'll be sharing those with you too!

Unposed Week: How to capture your kiddos candidly
Most of the photos I take of my kids are 100% candid/unposed.
They are my fave because:
1.Kids don’t love to sit still while you take formal portraits
2.I love REAL moments of them because that’s how I’ll remember them when they are grown.
I take photos probably twice a month on my DSLR and my cell phone is always ready.
Then I simply document their little story unfolding before me. If I see them doing something cute or something I want to remember, I grab my camera. I don’t worry about the messy background, I don’t try to get them to look at me. I simply capture their sweet personality and what they are doing in that moment
I try to step back and photograph the whole scene because that’s the part that tells the ‘story.’ Then I love to get close ups of their hands, or feet, or even snap from an arial standpoint. Mixing up where I stand and the angles I shoot, makes the story even more precious and meaningful.
If the lighting isn’t perfect, I don’t stress. Documentary photography is all about capturing the real. Are there times when I’m using my DSLR and I put them in good light to play? Of course, but the majority of the time, I leave them alone and just snap the shutter.

The posts on this page will make more sense if you gain an understanding for the basics.
So what are we chatting about this week? One that I'm super excited about! Capturing your kids (or grand babies) completely unposed in a documentary style. In other words... the REAL deal! No saying 'CHEEEEEESE' Just real real (sometimes messy) stuff! And don't worry if you don't have a 'fancy' camera... a smart phone will do the trick for this course! I will be posting photos taken on my iPhone as well! Ya ready? I am! Posts start tomorrow... AND at the end of the week there will be a giveaway!!! Yup! Can't wait! xo

With the pandemic, lotsa things have been canceled, one of those being newborn sessions. Documenting those moments are sooooo important, but wayyyyy to risky, and not worth the exposure for baby.
But I wanted to give moms pointers for doing their own sessions at home (excuse my daughter's creepy doll) LOL They can come out beautifully, and you don’t have to have a ‘fancy’ camera or anything special to do it!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Smart phone or DSLR
Window light (or outdoor open shade)
Swaddle (preferably something a bit on the stretchy side)
A warm environment (turn off the fans and crank the AC up) Baby wants to be warm
A basket with a filler blanket or a cute rug you can lay baby on
A headband or hat (optional)
And a sweet sweet newborn :)Make sure baby has just had their milk and they are nice and sleepy! Next, place baby on a soft, warm surface while you swaddle. The swaddle does NOT have to be fancy, simply swaddle how you do at nighttime, nice and snug with all loose ends tucked behind baby.
Place baby in a basket with a soft blanket filling the empty space, or place baby on a rug with a pretty pattern.
You’ll want to be sure to place baby near a window with pretty natural light filtering through. Make sure the baby is ‘side lit’ from the window. This creates a pretty shadow vs highlight effect. Turn off alllllll the lights in the room and JUST use the window light. Mixed light can make skin tones appear ‘orangy.’ Now take an arial shot with you standing carefully over baby. Also, feel free to experiment and take several different angles!
Have FUN with it! Afterwards... Download some mobile presets you love. I didn't edit these, but I love to use VSCO for my cell images! Hope that helps! xo
