I coach founders for a living. I also have a coach. Her name is Stephanie.
Everyone assumes the person handing out the playbook has it all figured out. I don’t. What I have is someone who won’t let me pretend I do.
Stephanie is my co-founder and the head of coaching at Predictable Profits … and she’s my coach. She’s the one who pushes me to keep leaning in when coasting would be easier. Who drags me back into my zone of genius every time I wander into work I’ve got no business touching. Who names the blind spot I’ve been circling for a month in about four words.
You can’t read the label from inside the jar. I don’t care how good you are at the work - you cannot see your own blind spots from the inside. That’s not a weakness. It’s just physics. The best leaders I know aren’t the ones without blind spots. They’re the ones who put someone in the room whose whole job is to see what they can’t.
Being a coach doesn’t exempt me from needing one. If anything, it’s the reason I need one more.
Thank you, Stephanie. For the standard you hold me to, and for refusing to let me shrink to anything less than it.
