Luckily and with God's blessing AIQS has been very busy lately. I will be back soon to update this page and start putting new indoor air quality problems with their solutions on for your reading pleasure. Keep it dry out there.

As AIQS moves into 2014, there will be many more short stories, photographs and quizzes to get our followers involved in trying to solve the mysteries of IAQ problems, I look forward to doing this and to hopefully help a person or two that may have the same problem with their home.

Hello my friends,
I am going to share another small thing that most people don't know about their homes and their landscape that can and will result in interior water damage.
Good building and maintenance practice is to have the surface of your home's concrete foundation at least 6 to 8 inches above the landscape surface. The reason for this is to make it less likely for exterior ground and/or irrigation water to migrate into the home via capillary action.
I see this mainly with homes in communities that have lush landscape near the home and inevitably when the mulch man comes to replenish the mulch, or the vegetation just starts to take over; it begins to pile up against the home. This condition creates a favorable environment for a nice damp pile of material to hold ground and/or irrigation water next to the home that will eventually migrate into the home through cracks in the stucco or building material interfaces. What is the fix you ask? Simply keep (maintain) the vegetation and/or mulch at least 6 to 8 inches below the surface of the concrete foundation.
Tune in next time for another helpful hint to protect your home from water damage. As always, if you are having problems and need help, please feel free to contact me directly at 561-310-6097.
Make it a great day!

OK my friends, I am starting out with the first of many messages for my new company Advanced Indoor Quality Solutions (AIQS). My intent is to have each lesson as a small lesson of the things that can go wrong with water and your home.

The first thing that I see the most that results in interior water damage is irrigation water that is impacting the exterior sides of people's homes. The irrigation water is meant for the lawn and plants not the house. If the irrigation water is impacting the side of your home, it can easily migrate into voids in the window sealant and stucco cracks and eventually make it's way into the interior of the home resulting in water damage and/or fungal growth. This is an easy fix, redirect the irrigation water away from your home!

Stay tuned and watch for hints to protect your home from water damage.
