Intentional inclusion is more than a social project, it’s a sophisticated talent strategy that delivers measurable results when given the chance.

This article by San Antonio Report highlights a prime example; it explores the graduation of seven students with intellectual and developmental disabilities from Baptist Health System’s Project SEARCH cohort. Over nine months, these interns mastered technical roles in pharmacy, radiology, and surgical sterilization. By bringing together experts across industry sectors, this initiative empowers young adults to build and nourish the valuable skills necessary to pursue meaningful employment opportunities.

Baptist Health doesn't stop there - instead, they continue this dedication beyond graduation. On April 28th, they partnered with U Can Employ and Els for Autism to conduct an Autism Awareness Webinar for employees, patients, and families to ensure their entire system is better equipped to accommodate autistic individuals, long after World Autism Month ends.

This initiative serves as a blueprint for any leadership team looking to drive operational excellence by building a direct pipeline for specialized talent.

Construction has begun on what will be the first sports and recreation complex in the United States specifically designed for autistic people.

Built by Els for Autism — a nonprofit founded by PGA golfer Ernie Els, whose son has autism — the facility broke ground in August 2025. It will be the first to meet ASPECTSS compliance, a research-based architectural framework for autism that addresses sensory processing, acoustics, lighting, and predictability in physical spaces.

The complex will include a purpose-built gymnasium, an aquatics centre for water safety and swim instruction, and a splash pad — all designed to reduce sensory overload and give autistic people year-round access to sport and recreation in an environment built for them, not adapted around them.

It’s not a modification. It’s a first.

This World Autism Month, the data is clear: autism inclusion is a high-yield business strategy, not just a social checkbox. When organizations move beyond a "standard" mold, they build a more resilient and profitable workforce that consistently outperforms typical teams.

In our blog, "Why Hiring Adults with Autism Strengthens Your Workforce", we explore how neurodiverse teams have been shown to be 30% more productive than their peers. This performance is driven by exceptional focus and unique problem-solving skills that offer a distinct competitive edge in any industry.

Beyond productivity, these inclusive cultures foster deep loyalty, improving job retention for up to 75% of neurodivergent individuals and saving thousands of dollars otherwise lost to turnover and retraining. Despite these advantages, only 30% of organizations have fully integrated autism inclusion into their corporate strategy.

Is your organization leading the way, or leaving this talent on the table?

Inclusion elevates everybody.📈

In business, it is common for employers who value innovation to gravitate towards those who think differently and bring fresh perspectives to complex problems.

Autistic individuals often excel at critical analysis and have a keen ability to focus on specific topics of interest, which can translate into deep subject matter expertise and unparalleled focus in the workplace.

In fact, "Research suggests that teams with neurodivergent professionals in some roles can be 30% more productive than those without them. Inclusion and integration of neurodivergent professionals can also boost team morale", according to Deloitte's research, 🔗 heyor.ca/bGKZ2T

The reality is that a small percentage of organizations are tapping into this pool of high-potential talent. Is your organization a way-maker, or are they lagging behind?
