On October 8th & 9th, I had the pleasure of welcoming Susan to the National Home Watch Association’s Home Watch Boot Camp.

With nearly 30 years of experience in hospitality, sales, and management, plus 16 years of successfully operating her own dog-walking and pet-sitting business, Susan brings a wealth of entrepreneurial experience to the home watch industry.

She came to Boot Camp ready to learn, asked thoughtful questions, participated in hands-on home watch visits, and embraced the opportunity to strengthen her knowledge of this growing profession.

On October 1st and 2nd Natanya O’Donnell attended Virtual Home Watch Boot Camp from the comfort of her home on Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina.
Natanya O’Donnell is the co-founder of East Cooper Home Watch, a premier property oversight service she operates with her husband, Lake O’Donnell. Raised on Sullivan’s Island, a distinctive barrier island just off the coast of Charleston, Natanya has an intimate understanding of the unique demands of coastal living and the importance of protecting a home in a challenging environment.

With a decade of experience in commercial real estate and property management, specializing in multi-tenant properties, Natanya brings a sophisticated understanding of property care, management, and client service. Her expertise is complemented by Lake’s 10 years of experience as a licensed Home Inspector and HUD Inspector, providing the O’Donnells with a comprehensive perspective on the condition and care of their clients’ homes.

Together, they have pursued extensive specialized training, from pools and spas to industry standards, ethics, and regulations. Their membership in the National Home Watch Association further reinforces their commitment to professionalism, education, and exceptional service.

🌴 Congratulations to Mark Gardner of Companion Home Watch and Concierge🌴

On August 27 and 28, 2026, I had the pleasure of welcoming Mark Gardner, founder of Companion Home Watch and Concierge in Daytona Beach, Florida, to the NHWA Home Watch Boot Camp.

During the in-person Boot Camp, we covered the NHWA’s comprehensive curriculum, including specialized information relevant to the southeastern United States. Mark also completed hands-on home watch inspections at both a private residence and a condominium, followed by extensive Business Basics training on the industry best practices, business development, and effective marketing strategies to help launch and grow a successful home watch business.

Mark Gardner spent 20 years as the owner and manager of a large, successful casual dining restaurant in Maryland. That experience allowed him to interact with people from all walks of life, but the demanding schedule often consumed his evenings and weekends.

An entrepreneur at heart, Mark decided it was time to move into a field that offered more flexibility while still allowing him to meet and serve others, something that remains very important to him.

Why home watch? Mark owns two residences 900 miles apart and was often concerned about his second home while he was away. That concern led him to research the industry. Knowing he would soon leave his restaurant career and spend most of his time in Florida, Mark found the National Home Watch Association’s website to be the most in-depth resource. It sparked his interest in a new career path that could provide training, support, and a meaningful next chapter.

Having built several successful businesses, Mark hopes this new venture will be his final—and best—one!

Mark is excited to join the NHWA alongside so many dedicated leaders and professionals in the industry. The certification offered through Home Watch Boot Camp was especially appealing to him.
He was an attentive listener, had great questions and I could see how much information he had already absorbed during his in-person visits.

On August 13th & 14th, 2026, I had the pleasure of welcoming Chuck Schanamann to the NHWA Home Watch Boot Camp.

During the in-person Boot Camp, we covered the NHWA's comprehensive curriculum, including specialized information relevant to the southeastern United States. Chuck participated in hands-on home watch inspections at both a private residence and a condominium, followed by extensive Business Basics training focused on industry’s best practices, business development, and effective marketing strategies to help launch and grow a successful home watch business.

Chuck joined the NHWA seeking education and the overall benefits of the National Home Watch Association and shared his impression of the exceptional support available to members, and the willingness of experienced professionals to mentor those entering the industry.

He was very excited to enroll in Home Watch Boot Camp seeking to provide the highest level of service to his clients.

Chuck was a very attentive student, followed many of our suggestions and earned his certification by passing an in-depth exam to earn his Certified Home Watch Professional status.

After spending many years in the medical design industry, Chuck built a career centered on precision, problem-solving, and earning his clients' trust. Throughout those years, he learned that attention to detail and reliability makes all the difference, especially when people are counting on you.
