Happy World Beard Day to my favorite guy, my ride or die, my travel partner, and the one who puts up with all my nonsense! I can’t even imagine Kona Chris without a beard. 😆

“You’re not my real mom.”
“You know what you were getting into.”
“They’re not your kids.”
“Stop trying to be their mom. They already have a mom.”
“Why don’t you love the kids like they’re you’re own?”
If you are a stepmom, you have heard these before. Being a stepmom in particular feels like an impossible task, because you should love the kids like they’re yours, but you shouldn’t treat them like they’re yours because they already have a mom. You can’t treat them with disrespect or else you’re a wicked stepmom. You have no meaningful say in the parenting decisions that impact you.
In short, being a stepmom is hard! It feels like navigating an emotional land mine, where you don’t know what will trigger an explosion from your coparent and partner. That is why I wrote this book, and why I have worked with stepmoms for so long. We need someone who understands us, who listens and doesn’t judge. We need to feel heard, validated, and have a safe place to discuss how we feel.
This is specifically designed for step parents who are struggling and who wants to change what they’re doing to be happier. It is available on Amazon (link in comments) or through the publisher (link in comments).
I’d love to help you navigate step parenting with less pain and more peace.

When we’re anxious or hurried, we tend to make decisions with the amygdala, the emotional center of our brain. That’s why we get frustrated in traffic, why we do retail therapy (my favorite form of therapy lol), and why we reach for the easiest food options available. No judgment - I do all these things! But taking a break and identifying how we feel can help us re-center, get grounded, and make decisions that align with our goals

My early morning thoughts: starting the day by centering myself is so helpful! If I wake up and rush out the door, I approach the whole day in a rushed, haphazard way. If I take time to meditate or drink some tea (with a happy message) I can choose throughout the day how I want to *act* instead of *react*.

My friends Edon Zollinger and Mandy Cengiz posted these pictures, and it inspired a thought: Lots of people pick a word for the year, but does anyone pick a color for the year? I’m feeling gold for 2025.

Feeling anxious or sad is a clue to us that we’re not being mindful, we’re not living in the present moment. And it’s so so easy to get pulled out of the present moment.

When I wake up and start to get ready in the morning, I often notice that I’m thinking about my upcoming day. I start to worry, to plan, to think about all the testing I have to do, the meetings I have to be in that day, and then oh my gosh I have to go home and cook dinner too and “oh crap, I’m doing it again” pause - it’s 7 AM and I’m already exhausted. 😂 You can see how easily this would wear you out, and why it’s so important to notice where your attention is and then bring it back to what you are doing.

How Am I Supporting My Community Today? 🌺
Hey everyone! Just a quick share from my day – I swung by a car wash fundraiser and treated my ride to a little TLC (even though it looks like rain today, I still wanted to support them!) While there, I grabbed a delicious chocolate horchata from a nearby stand. It feels awesome to give back to our community in these small ways. Remember, every little bit helps to keep our spirit and economy vibrant. Let's make a difference where we can!
