Aloha,
Straight out from the ocean, kissed by the Hawaiian salty waters, embraced by the Hawaiian sun, wearing my own self made lei from our garden, breathing in the scents of plumerias I am wearing and the salty air by the beach, letting the Hawaiian breeze caress me - simple and natural I sing an Estonian folk song on a beach in Hawaii.
This beach has a big significance in the Hawaiian tradition as this was the place where the kings came in with their canoes. The lava sledge competitions were also held here.
This was the beach where our Hula Kumu brought us to connect with the aina (land) and kai (ocean) and find our stones for another hula dance. It is kind of hidden and if you do not know the location, it is hard to find. It is almost always empty (which is a rare thing in most beaches on Hawaii island nowadays).
This song is a very special song, which has travelled with me all over the world. It talks about the time when I was a small girl I did not know anything else than what I saw with my eyes. Joy will make children's voices more beautiful than the sound of the strings of the zither.
I have sung it in all kinds of places - on mountain tops, in the caves, in the ocean to the dolphins, in the canoes, on the beaches and more. It has been a favourite to people in many places;) It brings forth the beauty of the Estonian language and at times bring tears into my eyes.
In this video I sing it the Hawaiian way. When Hawaiians sing - they tell stories and the songs are usually put together so that you can hula it - show it with your body. I could figure out couple of new Hula moves to an Estonian folk song while connecting to the spirits of the place. I entered the place also the Hawaiian way - listening for the yes to go in and then singing to all the spirits.
Many of these things you can experience with me and Michael this summer in Europe and many other places we will travel. Check out our travel calendar here: www.infiniteactivation.com
Enjoy and share;)
