3 Documents Every Adult Child Should Have Ready for an Aging Parent
Being prepared can make stressful situations easier to navigate. Keep these essential records organized and accessible:
1. An updated medication list
Include current medications, dosages, and relevant medication allergies.
2. Power of attorney and healthcare proxy documents
Understand who is authorized to help manage financial or healthcare decisions, and make sure the appropriate documents are completed.
3. A list of important healthcare contacts
Include your loved one’s primary care provider, specialists, preferred hospital, and emergency contacts.
Keep copies in a secure but accessible location, and review them regularly with your loved one.
Save this checklist and share it with someone caring for an aging parent.
