Most people see an empty lot and picture the house.

But a lot has to happen before the first wall ever goes up.

The site has to be prepared. Excavation has to hit the right depths and elevations. The foundation needs proper support. And backfill has to be placed and compacted correctly.

Small decisions made in the dirt can affect drainage, settling and the structure built above it for years to come.

The part of a new home you’ll never see? It may be one of the most important.

This is Shawn. He is our man behind the scenes that keeps us going every day. Excavation is hard on equipment and things do break. Shawn is here to maintain, repair and stay ahead of any possible issues or emergencies we encounter. He is the first one our guys call when something goes down, and he gets us back up and running so we can complete the mission. POV: You decide you’d rather have a backyard than a swimming pool. 👀

Removing an inground pool is a little more involved than filling in a giant hole.

The pool and concrete come out. The debris gets hauled away. The space is backfilled with clean sand and topsoil. Then everything is properly graded so the yard is ready for what comes next.

For this homeowner, that meant fresh sod — and a completely different backyard.

A pool one day. Usable green space the next.

There’s something ridiculously satisfying about watching a building disappear.

What took months to build can come down surprisingly fast — but the part most people don’t see is everything that happens after the last wall falls.

Debris removal. Foundation removal. Backfill. Compaction. Grading.

Because the goal isn’t just to make the building disappear.

It’s to make it look like it was never there.

Another one bites the dust! This homeowner wanted her backyard turned into more usable space so we removed the pool and backfilled with clean sand and topsoil. She had a company install new sod right behind us. In a blink of an eye....her backyard was totally transformed!

A parking lot is only as good as what’s underneath it. 👇

Before the pavement ever goes down, there’s a lot happening that most people will never see.

The site has to be properly graded.
The gravel base needs to be placed and tightened up.
Drainage has to move water where it’s supposed to go.
And the entire surface needs to be ready to support years of traffic.

We’re at the new Paris Baguette on South Westnedge this week completing the rough finish grade and getting the parking lot ready for paving.

Once the asphalt goes down, most of this work disappears forever.

Good excavation is work you may never notice once a project is finished — but bad excavation can cause problems for years.

Most people think excavation = digging holes.

It’s actually a lot more about controlling what happens to the ground after the equipment leaves.

Grade affects where water goes.
Compaction affects whether soil settles.
Drainage affects what happens after a heavy rain.
Site prep affects what gets built on top of it.

And a surprising amount of the best excavation work eventually gets covered up and never seen again.

Good excavation is work you may never notice once a project is finished — but bad excavation can cause problems for years.

We are officially putting the finishing touches on the new “Paris Baguette” located on South Westnedge. We are working on the rough finish grade today and then tightening up the parking lot gravel, which will be paved next week. As soon as that’s done, all of the traffic cones on Westnedge will be coming down and opening up all lanes. We appreciate everybody driving safely past this job site while we get this portion done. Thank you very much!
