Broncos take the TEDxKalamazoo stage! 💫

was proudly represented at TEDx Kalamazoo, where three WMU alumni took the stage to share powerful ideas and perspectives that inspire change and spark conversation!

Speakers included WMU President Russ Kavalhuna, Jana Curtis and Laird Walker, all of whom brought unique insights and experiences to this local event.

We are honored to see Bronco voices featured at TEDxKalamazoo and are so grateful for the ways our alumni continue to lead, serve and inspire.

President Russ Kavalhuna is taking his investment in student success to the next level, entrusting a student with managing his personal financial portfolio with the launch of the new Zhang Financial Presidential Internship.

Mo Tall, a personal financial planning major, is the inaugural presidential intern. As a paid intern at Zhang Financial under the guidance of professionals, he is researching, designing and implementing an investment portfolio for the president and having routine meetings with him to discuss the portfolio’s performance.

“Experience-Driven Learning is particularly powerful when something real is at stake. In this case, it’s my own investment portfolio,” says WMU President Russ Kavalhuna. “This internship gives a student the opportunity to make decisions that carry real consequences, with the guidance of professionals, and that level of learning and responsibility are what prepare our Broncos for the industry.”

Alumna Siera Gunnett (B.B.A.'23, Entrepreneurship) had just recently crossed the stage when she opened her sustainable small business fashion brand, Plannett Gunnett. Now, she's recruiting Bronco interns to help her continue making an impact in Kalamazoo and beyond.

Pairing passion with purpose, Julia Adams is finding new meaning in her career path through her internship with Plannett Gunnett!

Building the future of Western Michigan University Athletics, one beam (and Bronco) at a time. 🔨💛

The future Kalamazoo Event Center has officially topped out, a construction tradition dating back more than 1,000 years that symbolizes the peak of the build.

Planned to open in Fall 2027, the KEC will serve as a year-round destination for sports, entertainment and community events in the heart of downtown Kalamazoo. The facility is expected to host more than 230 events annually, attract over 700,000 visitors and generate an estimated $50 million in annual economic impact for the region.

The venue will be the future home of the Kalamazoo Wings Professional Hockey Team and Western Michigan University’s men’s and women’s basketball and men’s hockey programs, while also bringing concerts, touring shows and major events to downtown Kalamazoo.

Let's give it up for our hard-working community members and construction crews working hard behind the scenes for somewhere Broncos can call home.
