Mindfulness is like a warm, gentle invitation to slow down and focus on the present moment. It is the simple practice of bringing your attention back to the here and now with an open heart and a sense of curiosity. Imagine fully experiencing whatever you are doing—whether you are savoring a warm morning drink, listening closely to a loved one, or just feeling the steady rhythm of your own breath. Instead of letting your mind drift away into worries about yesterday or tomorrow, mindfulness simply helps you stay anchored in the current moment. There is absolutely no judgment here and no right or wrong way to feel; it is just you, softly checking in with yourself and embracing your thoughts and feelings exactly as they are.

DO YOU WORRY ABOUT THE FUTURE, EVEN THE SMALL THINGS?

Some people feel a heavy wave of anxiety whenever they try to map out their future or even just plan a family get together. When the big picture feels overwhelming, try bringing your focus back to just the next small step right in front of you. You do not need to have every detail figured out today—giving yourself permission to take one moment at a time will help your thinking brain to take charge. Ask yourself how realistic are my worries and what do I need in order to calm my anxious mind down: write down a plan, delegate some of the tasks, or perhaps recognize that other years people has a great time even when there were some hiccups.

HAVE YOU BEEN GASLIT?

Gaslighting can feel like a deeply unsettling experience—it's a form of emotional manipulation where someone makes you question your own memory, perception, or sanity. If you ever find yourself in this situation, the best way to handle it is to trust your instincts and anchor yourself in reality. Keeping a journal or writing down details of conversations can create a reliable record of events so you don't have to second-guess yourself. It's also incredibly helpful to lean on trusted friends, family, or a therapist who can offer an objective, outside perspective. Ultimately, remember that you don't have to argue or convince the other person to see your point of view; prioritizing your peace of mind and setting firm boundaries is always the best response. If you aren’t able to set boundaries, I’d be glad to help you online or in my office.

A FAST WAY TO CALM OVERWHELM

The 3-3-3 rule is a gentle, soothing grounding technique designed to bring your mind back to a safe place by anchoring you in the present moment, offering a way to find calm when anxiety takes over.

Look around for comfort: Softly scan your surroundings and name three things you can see, focusing gently on their colors, shapes, or textures.

Listen to your surroundings: Notice and name three distinct sounds, allowing the rhythm of the world to ground you.

Move your body gently: Reconnect with yourself by moving three parts of your body, such as rolling your shoulders or wiggling your toes.
