Distant mountains rest in silence, immersed in winter's chill. While the short days have us awaiting the Return of the sun, everyone knows it is always darkest before the dawn.

A cold and cloudy December has descended upon the Flathead Valley. The snow-capped peaks may seem daunting to some, but for the well-initiated, snow is a welcoming sign to different adventures. Layer up, we'll see you at the top.

The changing of the pines. A signal of the seasons.⁠

Most of the world watches as the leaves change every autumn. But here in Montana, we view things a little differently. Creating rich swaths of orange and yellow across the hillsides, the larch tree begins to change like any other deciduous tree. Except this isn't a deciduous tree - it's a conifer. The emerald green forests lit ablaze each fall, creating a rare effect seen sparsely worldwide. This is another case of the solitary mystery in this part of the world. ⁠

The slosh of lakefront waves breaks the still morning air. Clouds settle onto the surrounding hillsides. The fall foliage illuminates the forest as the sun finally begins its march across the autumn sky. This is a Montana morning, when anything is possible.⁠

It takes a little longer for the morning light to reach our remote Northwest corner of the world this time of year. But that doesn’t stop us from getting up and after it before the sun has had a chance to lift the mist from the mountains. We’ve got the gear, and the gears, to power through. ⁠

High up in the mountains just south of Glacier National Park is Hungry Horse Reservoir, a locals-only kind of playground that is brimming with adventure. It's there that we’ve been putting our gear, ourselves, and our dreams to the test - realizing again and again that we can’t let anything stand in our way.⁠
