💕What’s behind the baby’s name?💕
COLTON Ulukūpono Ryuka Chong-Hiromoto
Colton’s mama explains:
Colton - “Colton” was a favorite on our (dad and mom’s) list. We would revisit names on the list and add or remove some from time to time. But “Colton” stayed on the list from the beginning and was the sole name on the list going into our baby shower in January 2025. At our baby shower we had an activity for our friends and family to suggest baby names to help us broaden our list. However, it was kismet - the activity sheets were mistakenly discarded while cleaning up after the baby shower, so we felt that it was a sign that the name “Colton” was meant for our baby.
Ulukūpono - This name was given by a family member and its meaning is rooted in honoring the Chong family’s Hawaiian lineage, our journey through this pregnancy, and our future hopes for our baby. “Ulu” means to grow, increase, develop; and “kūpono” means upright, proper, righteous, or morally correct.
Ryuka (龍蛇) - This name was chosen to honor mother and baby’s Chinese zodiac signs as dragon and snake. In the Chinese zodiac, the snake follows the dragon, and is referred to as “Little Dragon”.
