Another Clearwater Pond in the books! This .42 acre pond had a large amount algae floating below the duckweed layer. Algae blooms like this can be caused by various types of runoff including livestock and pesticide.

Algae is a chemical imbalance problem, and can very rarely be rid off just by algaecide treatment. We recommend physcially removing it and then finding the best aeration solution for you and your pond!

We are getting closer to fall as we speak! Duckweed/algae goes away as we get to the colder months. However, especially with Duckweed, it is still important to get your pond/lagoon treated before the end of the season! When that large amount of organic material dies, it simply sinks to the bottom. This increases the chances of your pond/lagoon to be reinfested next season and can also create a sludge problem for you!

Skimming is the best non-invasive way to get rid of your duckweed/watermeal. Since this plant grows on the surface, we simply move it all to one side of your pond/lagoon, and dispose it! No need to use chemicals every week or two, just to have it just come back in a week or two. Duckweed also can make for a great superfood for cattle!
