Hello friends,

It is no secret that the Latino/Hispanic/LatinX demographics have surged for the past decade or more in almost every community in America. Over and over, we provide consulting and training on this phenomenon and how it is counterproductive not to include this community voice in policymaking and community decisions on infrastructure.

Like the case of affordable housing and planning and how this community is helping drive the US economy by helping in construction and home ownership even when we still have unequal opportunities for credits and loans.

The truth is that we want to invest, help, and belong in our communities. However, language barriers seem to be a significant obstacle to inviting this community to the table and engaging in a more meaningful way.

And most importantly, understanding and being aware of how systems of oppression operate and are perpetuated is vital to not repeat the same mistakes for future generations.

Hello Friends,
Culture Journey is working with organizations looking at the social determinants of health from a strategic planning lens and how to develop best practices that help organizations understand the connection between underrepresented communities' cultures and their traditions and issues of poor health in America.

I know this is a real issue for our Latino/Hispanic/LatinX community. The increased diabetes among this population is one example of how vital organizations need to understand this culture and provide language access to help build trust and participation. But most importantly, address the potential bias and stereotypes that we may have towards this community.
