A glimpse into the Plaza’s early days, when its story was only just beginning. Referred to as "Nichols Folly" the Country Club Plaza was built as a first-of-its-kind shopping destination. Designed with a car-first approach, it directly anticipated the rise of the automobile as the primary mode of transportation. The so-called foolish gamble became an instant success, boosting both the shopping district and the growth of the surrounding residential neighborhood. Five years after the Plaza opened in 1923, Villa Serena welcomed its first residents on the very site The Raphael Hotel calls home today. 🍂
