We kicked off our first in-person APIC chapter meeting of the year on 1/13 👏

Meet the GKC APIC Vice President, Maggie

Maggie Reavis is an experienced infection preventionist board certified in infection control and healthcare quality based in Kansas City, KS for The University of Kansas Health System. She worked as an adult critical care nurse from 2007 until 2013 when she began her career in infection prevention and control. She achieved her master’s in public health in 2020 from The University of Kansas and authored a training program for new infection preventionists as part of this work. She is active in the Greater Kansas City APIC chapter serving as the current President-elect and nationally by serving in the Professional Development Committee and the IP Academic Pathway Taskforce. She currently specializes in preventing infections for highly immunocompromised patients, C. difficile prevention and antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship.

Meet the GKC APIC President, Jessica!

Jessica Rindels is an Infection Preventionist at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Missouri. She specializes in infection prevention practices in acute/chronic dialysis and high-level disinfection/sterilization. She has been team leader in a collaborative focused on reducing infections in the pediatric dialysis population, developing job aids and resources for IPs and dialysis staff. She has also co-authored the updated APIC Text chapter on Dialysis in 2024.

Jessica graduated from Tabor College-Wichita with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Business Administration. She has been a registered nurse for 20 years; eleven in acute care and nine in infection prevention. She has been an active member of her local APIC chapter, Greater Kansas City 031, serving as a member of the 2020, 2023, and 2024 Local Annual Educational Conference Planning Committee as well as serving as chapter Secretary, President-Elect, and is current President. She achieved her CIC certification in 2018.

Along with her commitment to the profession of Infection Prevention, Jessica has expanded her dedication to improving patient outcomes and quality care by becoming a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) in 2023 and a Healthcare Accreditation Certification Professional-CMS (HACP-CMS) in 2024. In her free time, Jessica enjoys riding horses and volunteering at the stables to help kids learn how to ride. She has also started a journey to learn CAD programming for 3D printing fun.
