When requirements replace judgment, the system stops serving its mission.

In this clip, Brent Webb explains how teams can write themselves into corners. Treating documentation as the goal instead of a tool. The result is predictable: friction, delays, and decisions that feel safe on paper but don’t make sense in practice.

This isn’t about lowering standards. It’s about keeping standards tied to why they exist, building clear, defensible decision paths for the exceptions.

What rules in your process has outlived the purpose they were meant to serve?

Standards should guide thinking. Not replace it.

Standards are clear – until the situation isn’t.

What happens when the paperwork isn’t clean, the clock is running, and the aircraft still needs support?

Brent Webb breaks down why parts acceptance is becoming more complicated, how AOG exposes the gap between policy and ex*****on, and why provenance systems and stronger traceability are the path to rebuilding trust in used material over time.

The future of aviation is built through curiosity, exposure, and real-world experience.

This past Tuesday, Jet Midwest welcomed aviation technology students from Northland Career Center for a tour of our facility and a closer look at the work that keeps the industry moving.

Programs like NCC’s aviation technology pathway are helping prepare the next generation of aviation professionals for continued education, Airframe and Powerplant Certification, and careers across the aviation industry.

There’s something powerful about seeing aviation up close. It takes what’s learned in the classroom and brings it into the real world to witness the scale, the precision, the problem-solving, and the people behind it all.

The future of this industry depends on investing in the next generation early, encouraging curiosity, and creating opportunities to learn the craft firsthand.

We’re proud to help open that door.

When prices jump, it’s usually not random. It’s the model changing underneath you.

Delays on new product lines are keeping older equipment in service longer, so less inventory hits the market. And what does show up comes at a premium.

At the same time, newer buyers may be valuing assets differently, which can prop up pricing.

And part-out bids are increasingly competing with rebuild strategies as serviceable values rise.

In this clip, Bill Thompson breaks down what that means in practice: if you’re using last year’s assumptions, you may struggle to anticipate today’s variables.

Which assumptions in your model are most likely to change in today's market?

Not every deal is the right one for you.

In aviation, growth doesn’t come from chasing every opportunity. It comes from understanding which opportunities actually fit your capabilities, your strategy, and your long term vision.

The hardest decision sometimes isn’t saying yes. It’s having the discipline to walk away.

That mindset matters in every part of the aviation lifecycle. Analysis matters. Timing matters. Experience matters.

Because the deals that create long term success are rarely the ones made out of pressure. They’re the ones made with clarity.

The best careers are built the same way great aviation work is built: through curiosity, trust, and people willing to keep improving their craft.

At Jet Midwest, we believe the best work happens in environments where people are trusted to grow, encouraged to stay curious, and surrounded by teams willing to share knowledge and solve problems together.

Across inspections, repairs, structures, engines, components, and maintenance support, our teams work together to solve problems, learn from one another, and build better solutions.

This is a place where initiative is valued, knowledge is shared, and growth happens through hands-on experience alongside people who care deeply about the work.

Because building a future in aviation is about more than finding a job. It’s about finding a place that challenges you to become better at what you do.

Most costly mistakes aren’t made in the big decisions. Sometimes, they’re the small details you could easily overlook.

In this clip, Bill Thompson shares a career-defining moment: he was valuing a portfolio tied to 68 engines when a last-minute note about K-factor cycle exposure surfaced, and changed the entire evaluation.

What looked straightforward on paper suddenly required a completely different understanding of engine cycles, exposure, and long term value.

That’s what experience buys you: the ability to spot the “small” detail that can significantly impact the outcome.

What’s the one thing that makes you step back and ask, “is there something we’re missing?”

Are you buying an asset… or buying a distraction?

Some opportunities don’t cost money. They can also cost time, attention, and momentum if you’re not careful.

In this episode of Nose to Tail, Patrick Kraus sits down with William Thompson to talk through the discipline behind smart asset decisions: modeling the plan you’re actually going to execute, avoiding valuation drift, and staying consistent when everyone is chasing the same opportunity.

Growth usually begins with humility.

The people who keep improving are rarely the ones who think they have all the answers. They are the ones willing to listen, learn, and stay open to new perspectives.

That mindset matters in aviation, where precision is earned through experience and progress often comes from asking the next smart question.

At Jet Midwest, curiosity is more than a trait. It is part of how stronger solutions are built every day.

The best professionals never stop learning.

Every handoff adds time, risk, and coordination the customer shouldn’t have to carry.

In aviation, trust is only as strong as the promises you can keep, especially when the request isn’t routine. When there’s a gap between what the customer needs and what you can provide, you risk losing the thread: the timeline, the confidence, and the work.

Sami Maalouf explains what it looks like to close those gaps with intention. For him, that meant following the fleet as it changes, building wide-body hangar capacity (including A380), and stacking the support around it: back shops, components, engineering (Part 21), and training (Part 147), so the aircraft doesn’t get handed off to someone else to finish the job.

Expansion isn’t about more. It’s about better. Keeping capability connected so customers aren’t managing the loose ends.

Where do you depend on others to complete the chain? And what would it take to own the outcome instead?
