Kansas City is teaming up with the Heartland Conservation Alliance for a volunteer cleanup event aimed at restoring sections of the Blue River and surrounding trails.

The initiative brings community members together to remove invasive plant species like honeysuckle and clear debris along the river corridor, supporting habitat restoration and healthier ecosystems for local wildlife.

The effort is part of the broader “Renewing the Blue” project, which is already focused on long-term environmental improvements upstream. The cleanup event is scheduled for Saturday morning and highlights ongoing efforts to enhance Kansas City’s natural spaces ahead of increased global attention during the upcoming World Cup.
