The V cut, also known as a Cat's Eye or Wedge Cut, creates a deep incision that extends beyond the cap and into the body of the cigar, removing a wedge of filler to***co.

Many smokers appreciate the generous draw and concentrated smoke stream it produces, but the method is inherently invasive and can place considerable stress on the head of the cigar. A V cutter must be extremely sharp and deployed in a swift, deliberate motion to avoid damaging the wrapper.

The distinctive wedge-shaped opening also creates a unique mouthfeel. The focused channel changes the way the cigar rests against the lips and tongue, producing a tactile experience unlike that of a straight cut, punch cut, or piercer.

The V cut is particularly well suited to slimmer vitolas such as panatelas and lonsdales, though personal preference ultimately determines its appeal.

Like every cutting method, the V cut presents both advantages and compromises. There is no universally correct choice. Personal preference, cigar format, and the experience being sought ultimately guide the decision.
