You see the fairways. But do you know the story behind them?

What looks like a beautiful nine-hole golf course in Karlstad is actually the result of years of volunteer hours, problem-solving, borrowed expertise, community support, new technology, major improvements — and a whole lot of people refusing to let a local asset fade away.

There’s no large corporate ownership behind Karlstad Golf Club. No massive maintenance department. Just a dedicated group of people who have stepped up, learned as they went, shared ideas, donated time, solved problems and continued investing in something they believe matters to Karlstad.

From a completely revamped irrigation system and hands-on course management to technology upgrades, volunteer labor and the people quietly helping behind the scenes, there is so much more happening at Karlstad Golf Club than most of us ever see from the road.

And the results are showing.

Congratulations to our Chamber member Kittson Healthcare on celebrating 20 years of the Score Fore Golf Tournament and the incredible community support that has helped make it such a lasting tradition.

Events like this are a reminder of how important strong local partnerships are in sustaining rural healthcare. We’re especially grateful to have Kittson Healthcare’s Karlstad Clinic right here in our community, providing local access to care for Karlstad-area families.

Thank you to the golfers, sponsors, volunteers, donors, staff, and supporters who have helped make Score Fore a success year after year — and thank you to Kittson Healthcare for continuing to invest in the health and wellbeing of our region.

The Karlstad Chamber of Commerce is excited to share a unique leadership development opportunity from University of Minnesota Extension – Leadership & Civic Engagement.

Growing Local Leadership is designed for emerging leaders who want to build confidence, strengthen leadership skills, make connections across Northwest Minnesota, and discover how they can make a difference in their communities.

And here’s the important part: you do not need to already hold a leadership title or serve on a board to belong in this program.

In fact, the program especially hopes to reach people who:

💚 Care about their community
💚 Are curious about leadership and civic involvement
💚 Want to build confidence and new skills
💚 Have not previously served in formal leadership roles
💚 Haven’t always seen themselves represented in local leadership

Kittson County residents are eligible!

📅 Monthly sessions run October 2026 through May 2027
💻 Includes 5 virtual + 3 in-person sessions
👤 Participants must be at least 18 years old
📣 Self-nominations are welcome — or nominate someone you think would be a great fit!
⏰ Nominations are due September 1, 2026
