We're excited to welcome Cassidy Lomazzo to Dillon Business Advisors! 🎉

Cassidy joins us as a Client Service Manager. She'll support clients with full-service accounting, payroll, and business advisory. She brings several years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping and tax, most recently in public accounting. There she worked with a wide range of businesses and individuals.

Outside of work, she's golfing, painting, reading, or trying a new recipe. She also loves country music and spontaneous weekend trips to Savannah. Her favorite trip so far was Spain — for the food, the scenery, and the history. And if she could do another job for a day? FBI agent.

Please join us in welcoming Maricar Marquez to the Dillon Business Advisors team! 🎉

Maricar joins us as a Tax Assistant. She'll focus on individual tax preparation and give our clients administrative support. She has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting Technology. She's also worked in accounting for more than two years in the Philippines and three years in the US, serving both individuals and businesses.

A few fun facts: If she could try another job for a day, she'd be an astronomer at a deep-space observatory. Her favorite place is the top of a mountain, and Mt. Pinatubo is one of her favorite hikes. When she's not on a trail, you'll find her with a good fiction book, with her family and their fur babies Skye and Cloude, or listening to music.

"How much should I pay myself?"

It's one of the most common questions we hear from business owners. The answer starts with your entity type because that sets the rules.

- S corp owners who actively work in the business must take a reasonable salary
- Partners in a partnership cannot take a salary and instead receive guaranteed payments and K-1 income
- C corp owners typically receive both salary and dividends, each taxed differently
- Sole proprietors do not have a salary concept for tax purposes
- Salary should align with the work performed, not just tax minimization goals

For S corp owners, getting the number right is a balancing act. Set it too low and the IRS may treat your distributions as wages. Set it too high and you give up much of the tax benefit of being an S corp.
