Here are some tax-saving opportunities you might be overlooking:

1. Business travel can be deducted if it’s work-related. This includes flights, hotel stays, 50% of meal costs, conference fees, parking, and tolls.

2. Seasonal marketing efforts such as summer promotions, printed flyers, and participation in local events are all deductible.

3. Client meetups, even if held outdoors at a café or park, can count as a business expense as long as they’re properly documented.

4. Interns, temporary workers, and part-time summer help are deductible through payroll and related support costs.

5. Equipment rentals for events, pop-up shops, or trade shows like booths, tables, and signage also qualify as deductible expenses.

Taking a vacation that includes work? Only the business portion is deductible, so track it carefully.

Remember to save every receipt and log the business purpose clearly.

An S Corp can be a great tax strategy, but only if you do it right.

If you’re not on payroll, it’s time to change that.

You can’t just take distributions and call it a day.

Here’s what you need to have in place:

✔ Pay yourself through payroll

✔ Set a reasonable wage based on your role

✔ Take distributions after your salary is covered

Are you saving tax dollars by putting your children on payroll? Or creating a nightmare if you are audited?

The most important rule is that your children must be real employees doing legitimate work, and their pay should be reasonable for the work performed.

Jamie Trull recently posted this jewel.

I'm a big fan of getting more bang for your buck. As you know, I love to teach strategies for small business owners that help them save money, including tax-savings strategies.

However, tax strategies aren't the ONLY money-saving opportunities that business owners are uniquely able to utilize.

I love to travel, and of course I maximize deductions related to my business travel. But what about those trips that are purely personal in nature? Turns out, my business still helps me pay for them.

How, you ask? I use my business rewards credit card to purchase what I need for my business, and then use the points I accumulate to take awesome vacations with the family! Totally above-board and fully tax-free!

Because businesses aren't cheap to run (am I right?), I find that I accumulate points on my business cards MUCH faster than my personal cards. Plus, I make sure to take advantage of bonus offers to maximize the points I can get!

Lifestyle business? Cool. But no, not everything is deductible.

Here are a few real-life reminders:

🚫 That personal vacation with “just one meeting”? Not deductible.

🚫 Daily coffee runs? Only a write-off if you’re meeting with a client.

🚫 Clothes for a photoshoot? If you can wear it outside of work, it’s probably not deductible.

Every situation is different, so it’s always best to speak with a tax expert who understands your business model and can help you plan ahead.

Let’s chat about building a smart, legal tax strategy that works for you.

Your vehicle mileage is solid gold!
Mileage rates increased!
Business miles:
January 1 through June 30: 72.5 cents per mile
July 1 through December 31: 76 cents per mile
Medical miles:
January through June 30: 20.5 cents per mile
July 1 through December 31: 23.5 cents per mile.

Mileage records must be written. If you track on an app make certain you print or back up information.

In addition to tracking business mileage, you need beginning of year and end year odometer totals.

Lifestyle is not a business deduction. Personal expenses are not business expenses.

Lifestyle is not a business deduction. Personal expenses are not business expenses.

Many business owners assume that every business purchase qualifies as a tax deduction, but that is not always the case.

The IRS has strict rules on what can and cannot be deducted!

To be deductible, an expense must be both ordinary and necessary. An ordinary expense is one that is common in your industry, while a necessary expense is essential for business operations.

If an expense is used for both business and personal purposes, such as a car or phone, only the business portion is deductible. It is important to keep clear records to separate personal and business use.

Meals and entertainment expenses also have limitations. If you take clients to dinner, only fifty percent of the meal may be deductible. Entertainment expenses, such as event tickets, are usually not deductible.

Certain clothing and gifts have restrictions as well. A branded t-shirt may qualify, but a full wardrobe does not. Client gifts over twenty-five dollars are only partially deductible.

Keeping proper records and working with a tax expert can help ensure that you maximize deductions while staying compliant with tax regulations.

Before you make a big purchase, hire a new employee, or invest in growth and marketing, you need clarity from your numbers.

Ask yourself:

- Is my business consistently profitable?

- Do I have enough cash flow to support this investment?

- Will I still be able to cover taxes, payroll, and other expenses?

- Do I have an emergency reserve?

- What is the expected return on this investment?

- Is this a need or a want right now?

Your bank balance only tells part of the story.

Your financial reports provide the clarity you need to make confident business decisions.
