The Salamatof Native Association, Inc. (SNAI), parent of Teya Technologies, is a Native Corporation formed under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971 (ANCSA), with corporate offices and headquarters located in Kenai, Alaska. They are governed by an experienced board of directors and management staff, who are accountable to their shareholders. The majority of the 138 shareholders of the corporation reside in the Kenai Peninsula. The mission of SNAI is to preserve and protect its culture and heritage and promote pride by enriching and educating its youth for the future. Their primary business consists of land sales and development. The Village of Salamatof was a recognized location prior to the 1850’s. It was originally spelled “Salamatowa”, which was the surname of a Russian officer on one of the exploring expeditions sent to study Alaska. In 1850, the spelling was changed to the present Salamatof by Elia G. Wosnesenski, another Russian explorer from the Academy of Sciences. The ancient village of Salamatof was located in approximately the same area that present-day maps locate Salamatof Creek and Salamatof Lake. The Dena’ina name is “Ken Dech’etl’t”, which means “scrub timber flat lake”, according to the writings of the late Salamatof shareholder, Peter Kalifornsky. Peter is well known for his writings of the Dena’ina people, their culture, and heritage. Thanks to the foresight of early Native leaders, the Village of Salamatof was re-organized under the leadership of Rika Murphy and, as a “Traditional Indian Tribe”, went forward to claim its place in history alongside other Native Villages around the Cook Inlet, including Kenai, Ninilchik, Seldovia, and Tyonek.

As winter approaches, Salamatof is here to help support our Elders through the winter months.

From seasonal assistance like firewood and snow removal to other Elder services offered throughout the year, these programs are one of the ways Salamatof works to care for and support our community.

Salamatof Forestry & Fire was created with a vision of reducing wildfire risk across the Kenai Peninsula through the removal of hazardous trees and brush along with responsible forest management.

The crew works to reduce vegetation and other materials that can feed wildfires, helping care for Salamatof lands while reducing wildfire risk in our community.

But the work doesn’t stop when fire season ends.
During the winter, the crew processes firewood through Salamatof’s firewood program. That wood has helped Salamatof elders, Salamatof Tribal elders, veterans, the Kenaitze/Salamatof Fishery, Love INC, and others in need.

It’s a cycle of stewardship that benefits both the land and the people who call this place home: reducing wildfire risk, caring for our forests, and turning that work into a resource that supports our community.

Ernest "Ernie" Jordan, age 84, of Kenai, Alaska, passed away peacefully after living a full life on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

Ernie grew up in Kenai, cultivating deep, lifelong roots in the community. He was a memorable guy who lived life with an infectious smile and a genuine kindness that extended to everyone he met. An all-around gentleman, he was known for his love of telling beautifully exaggerated stories, enjoying good food, dancing, and playing music. He liked to drive fast, thoroughly enjoyed his travels to Hawaii, and loved visiting Homer often, especially taking trips down to Land's End for dinners.

An outdoorsman at heart, Ernie found true joy in the Alaskan wilderness through hunting and trapping, and spent many rewarding seasons commercial set net fishing.

Professionally, Ernie spent many dedicated years working in the local industry, eventually retiring from ConocoPhillips in North Kenai. Ernie was a devoted member of the Russian Orthodox Church and a proud shareholder of both CIRI and the Salamatof Native Association, deeply connecting him to his community and heritage.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Margie Jordan, as well as his parents and his brother, Raymond Jordan.

Ernie's legacy of joy and laughter is survived by his brother, Larry Jordan, and his family of Seattle, Washington, along with the extended Monfor family and a community of friends who will deeply miss his warmth and presence.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Holy Assumption Russian Orthodox Church located at 1106 Mission Ave, Kenai, AK 99611.

Following the service, the burial will take place at the Monfor family cemetery. A reception to celebrate Ernie's life will follow at the Kenai Elks Lodge beginning at 4:00 PM.

This growing season brought a few unexpected challenges, but that didn’t stop the Salamatof greenhouse from producing some bounty along the way.

Despite the obstacles, there were still several small harvests throughout the summer, with enough fresh produce to share among the Salamatof Tribe. Corn and potatoes still on the horizon!

Alaska always requires flexibility, resilience and making the most of the season we are given. We’re grateful for what the greenhouse provided this summer and already looking forward to what next year will bring.
