The “What If” Question No One Likes to Ask…

What if something happened tomorrow? Would the people you love be financially prepared?

Life insurance is about more than a policy. It can be part of a broader financial strategy designed to help provide support for the people who matter most to you.

It may help replace lost income, cover ongoing expenses, support children or aging parents, and provide added financial stability during an already difficult time.

This September, during Life Insurance Awareness Month, take a moment to ask an important question:

Does my current coverage still match my family’s needs?

Life changes. Families grow. Income changes. Responsibilities shift. Your life insurance strategy may need to change with them.

At Phelps Financial Group, we can help you better understand your options and determine what may be appropriate for your goals and circumstances.

Money isn’t the problem. What has your heart is.

In the very first episode of Wealth in the Word, Dwain Phelps breaks down one of the most misunderstood verses about money:

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil…” — 1 Timothy 6:10

Scripture doesn’t say that money itself is evil. Money is a tool and a resource. The warning is about allowing money to become our master, our motivation, or the thing we value above God.

This week’s Wealth in the Word:

📖 One Verse: 1 Timothy 6:10
💡 One Principle: Money is a tool. It should serve God’s purposes, not master us.
✅ One Action Step: Identify two kingdom-focused ways you can intentionally use your money this week.

The question isn’t simply, “How much money do I have?”
It’s also, “What is my money helping me accomplish?”

Welcome to Wealth in the Word — biblical wisdom with practical application for the way we think about, manage, and steward money. The series is intentionally built around one verse, one principle, and one action step.

What’s one way you can put your resources toward Kingdom purpose this week?

Don’t procrastinate on life insurance. Life doesn’t always give us a warning.

We plan for retirement. We invest for the future. We build savings. But life insurance serves a different purpose.

Life insurance is not an investment. It is a financial asset designed to provide something your investments may not be able to provide at the exact moment your family needs it most: immediate financial protection after a loss.

It can help create financial resources for loved ones, replace lost income, address debts and expenses, and support the legacy you worked to build.

The question isn’t only, “How much have I invested?”

It’s also, “What happens financially to the people I love if I’m no longer here?”

Don’t wait for the unexpected to make protection a priority. Review your life insurance strategy while you have the opportunity to plan.

Have questions about how life insurance may fit into your broader financial strategy? Let’s start the conversation. 🫱🏽🫲🏾

“Money is the root of all evil.” 👀

Hold up… that’s not what the Bible says.

1 Timothy 6:10 points to the love of money as the problem.

See the difference? 👓
Money itself is a tool. It can help you provide for your family, build a business, give generously, create opportunities, support your community, and leave a legacy.

But when getting more money becomes more important than God, your values, your family, or your purpose? That’s when the tool starts becoming the master.

So here’s your Myth Monday takeaway:

📖 ONE VERSE: 1 Timothy 6:10
💡 ONE PRINCIPLE: Money is a tool, not your master.
✅ ONE ACTION STEP: Take a look at what’s really driving your financial decisions.

Ask yourself one question: What has my heart?

Because money can be a great tool… but a terrible master. Put it in its proper place and make it serve your purpose.

Now let's make that make sense.
Build the wealth. Bless your family. Leave the legacy.
Just make sure God stays at the center of it all.

I want to share something that’s really been on my heart, and it’s the reason I created Wealth in the Word.

For years, I’ve had the opportunity to educate people about money. But as a believer, I also understand that financial wisdom isn’t just about what we earn, save, invest, or spend. It’s also about how we steward what God has placed in our hands.

And I believe one of the biggest challenges we have is that we often learn to see money through the world’s perspective before we ever stop to ask:

How does God see money?

That’s what I want us to explore together every Wednesday.

We’re going to take biblical financial principles and make them practical—something you can understand, reflect on, and actually apply to your life.

Each week, we’ll keep it simple:

📖 One verse
💡 One principle
✅ One action step

My goal is not just to help you become more knowledgeable about money. I want to help you become more intentional with it.

Because when we apply God’s wisdom to our finances, money becomes more than something we simply pursue or possess.

It becomes a resource we can steward with purpose.

I’m excited about where these conversations are going to take us, and I hope you’ll join me every Wednesday for Wealth in the Word.

Follow along and share this with someone who wants to grow in both faith and stewardship.

💪 Financial Fitness Friday

One workout won't get you fit. One smart financial move won't build retirement security.

One Social Security decision could affect your monthly retirement income for the rest of your life.

A question we hear often is:
“When should I start taking Social Security?”

It’s an important question because the age you choose to claim can have a lasting impact on the amount you receive each month.

You can generally begin retirement benefits as early as age 62, but claiming before your full retirement age means accepting a reduced monthly benefit. Waiting longer can increase your monthly benefit, with increases continuing up to age 70.

So, when is the right time for you?

There isn’t one answer that works for everyone. Consider the bigger picture:

✔️ Your health and longevity
How might your health and expected retirement years influence your decision?

✔️ Your overall retirement income plan
Do you need Social Security income now, or do other resources give you flexibility to wait?

✔️ Your household and tax picture
Your spouse’s benefits, other income, taxes, and whether you continue working can all play a role.

The goal isn’t to find a “perfect” claiming age.

It’s to make an informed decision that fits into your overall retirement strategy.

At Phelps Financial Group, we help clients understand how Social Security fits into the bigger retirement picture, so each decision supports the life they’re working toward.
