Tropical Storm Isaias has formed in the Gulf and is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane as it moves toward the central Gulf Coast. Current forecasts indicate the storm could make landfall Friday night or early Saturday, bringing the threat of damaging winds, storm surge, heavy rainfall and flash flooding.

The National Hurricane Center currently forecasts Isaias to reach Category 2 strength at landfall, with the greatest coastal impacts expected near and east of where the storm comes ashore. Heavy rain and damaging winds could also extend well inland across portions of the Southeast.

Prepare now while conditions are still safe:
• Follow evacuation orders and official alerts from local authorities.
• Secure outdoor furniture, decorations and other loose objects.
• Clear gutters and drains so heavy rain can move away from your property.
• Charge phones and backup batteries and prepare for possible power outages.
• Move important documents, valuables and electronics away from areas that could flood.
• Never walk or drive through floodwater.
• If your property is damaged, wait until officials say conditions are safe before entering affected areas.
