A home’s entry should welcome the visitor, engage the senses and introduce the person/s who lives there. Here are a few tips to make your entry a more pleasant space:
1) utilize different textures and tactile elements to convey warmth (ie rug, wood furniture, a woven basket)
2) provide a place to sit or set a coat and handbag
3) introduce yourself with a family photo, painted portrait or a favorite personal item
5) engage the senses by including a candle, fresh flowers or a potted plant

This looks like the perfect spot to stay cool in our current heat wave, but still enjoy the beauty on display outside.
I feel like every home needs a nook like this. A place to sip coffee, read a book, visit with a friend or just stare at the garden and do a little daydreaming.

I always feel a little self conscious sharing photos of my own home, which is definitely work in progress (I call it my “fake Tudor, built in the 70’s and in need of a top to bottom renovation), but my latest improvement is just too good not to post. I’ve been looking for a small, vintage light to hang over my breakfast table and finally found the perfect one! I picked it up at a salvage yard in Seattle, had my electrician inspect and install it, then added some fresh new shades for a little feminine charm. This little corner is a mishmash of things I’ve had for years (wicker chairs, sisal rug and blue hutch) and more recent Facebook marketplace finds (oak table and antique settee), so I wanted something a little funky that didn’t look new or too perfect. To me this feels “just right”.

Maybe it’s time to reimagine the laundry room?
This space was previously a kids’ playroom off of a large, eat-in kitchen. After the kids outgrew the playroom, the family chose to relocate the laundry here and enlisted our help to redefine the space. Today it’s a bright and cheerful room for doing laundry, arts& crafts, gift wrapping, storing cleaning products, games, puzzles and much more.
