This weeks drought monitor report doesn’t show any good news. Yet another increase in the overall drought condition for the state. Say a prayer, light a candle, heck sacrifice a goat if that’s your thing, but we need rain. Showing several chances over the next week or so. 🤞🙏🕯️🐐🌠🎂

First two weeks of the 2023 U.S. Drought Monitor for Texas. Not an obvious increase in the overall drought conditions but there was a 2.01% increase. We really need a wet spring this year🤞!!!!

The EPA sets very stringent guidelines for public water systems across the U.S. with that said these guidelines do not cover the estimated 23 million private wells that supply households with drinking water. The responsibility of making sure the water is safe to drink from a private well falls to owner/household that utilizes the well.

The EPA recommends testing your private well annually for total coliform bacteria, nitrates, total dissolved solids, and pH levels. In those cases where small children, the elderly, women who are pregnant/nursing or other people that may be Immunocompromised that live in the household, it may be important to to test more frequently.

You may also want to test your well water if any of these situations occur…

* There are known problems with ground water or drinking water in your area
* Conditions near your well have changed significantly (i.e. flooding, land disturbances, and new construction or industrial activity)
* You replace or repair any part of your well system.
* You notice a change in your water quality (i.e. odor, color, taste).
